  • Big cats driven by ...

Big cats driven by instinct, for ex an animal back will instigate attack mode more prevalent in Tiger's gene pool. Kill is the most dominant code in it's DNA. Whilst DNA in social animal is the most prevalent instinct. You talk about other factors age health etc in doing so overlook the = conditions i have hypothesized, same age, size, sex etc. If before 2 combatants clash what im saying is a Lioness, cub or meat added into the equation the male Lion will 2 win is much stronger

  • "if you put a fresh ...

"if you put a fresh carcass down, the Lion would most certainly prevail." - That's not absolute. It's pretty childish saying that it will always go down this way. It would depend on the individuals fighting over the carcass. Aggression, size and experience. For instance, a big, aggressive dominant male will drive off a young male lion. While a aggressive male lion in his prime would drive off a young tiger from the kill.

  • You still haven't ...

You still haven't defined what "fighting defensively" means. Tigers and lions have similar fighting techniques. I've heard that one website Lairweb hyperbolized the difference in technique.

Anyways, what markings? The stripes? The stripes help tigers in covert attacks against large prey items. They help in ambush. Leopards have markings behind their ears(I think or is it cheetahs?) but I forgot what purpose those markings serve.

Lionesses have no markings for a similar reason, for camoflouge

  • The markings are a ...

The markings are a sign warning other animals to keep away, like the Lion's mane it's markings serve more than one purpose, so a Tiger's tend to fight defensively (Gir Forest/Jungle Jim) Lion's more often than not initiate attack. But it is calculated never reckless. They use completely differing techniques. Tiger's usually raise up box then bearing down using their wieght, wrestling their adversary. Lion's are more patcient feinting, countering slipping rolling swipeing from 2 point stance

  • Anatomically ...

Anatomically they're virtually identical. However studies in natural behaviour reveal several distinct differences. Social/solitary life styles shapes these differences. For example they maybe = in disputes but if you put a fresh carcass down, the Lion would most certainly prevail. Also a Tiger will scrap more vicously with one of it's own species. Lion's dont make such distinctions. Like Leopard's, Jaguar's, Tiger's dont like all out combat. Markings on it's coat serves as a warning sign

  • As for severing the ...

As for severing the tendons at the back of the legs? A lion would find it hard to get to the back of the legs of any agile big cat.

  • As for the issue ...

As for the issue with the mane... cushion the impact? Sorry, its just a bunch of fabric. Considering the strength of big cats(a tiger and lion can both crush the skull of domestic cattle with a paw swipe), the mane won't do much to protect it.

The mane just serves for intimidation, which is admittingly HUGE factor, I'd say the lion would drive off a timid tiger.

  • Additionally, what ...

Additionally, what do you mean by defensively? Tigers and lions have an identical fighting technique, unless you can produce a veridical source that says otherwise. And a lion has slightly longer limbs, and its range of motion is about the same as a tiger. And I'd say a tiger(which is on average bigger) would have a stronger paw swipe. However at equal weights, lions and tigers are a parity when it comes to strength.

  • For instance, ...

For instance, envisage a fight over a carcass. The goal is simply to drive away the competitor without getting yourself injured. DEATH IS NOT INTENDED. Most fights among big cats are displays of INTIMIDATION. Additionally, there's a problem with classifying animals as "solitary" and "social". It's more accurate to say tigers lead a SOLITARY lifestyle as tigers often meet a few times a month. George Schaller observed almost NINE tigers around a single kill.

  • We're dealing with ...

We're dealing with big cats NOT humans. In human combat sports, like mixed martial arts, the purpose is indeed to do as much damage as possible. In confrontations between big cats however, if the cats have the mind set to "DO AS MUCH DAMAGE AS POSSIBLE", this implies a reckless approach, which will do nothing except GET YOUR ASS KILLED. Animals approach scenarios with a few things in mind, one is definetly death.

  • ...

YourHeartisThekey-When two different species fight they are looking to do as much damage as possible that includes death. Solitary predators tend to fight defensively whilst social predators tend to fight offensively. Tiger's dont only box they go for face, neck, or spine this learnt behaviour using hunting tecniques. Lion's have much stronger paw swipe because it's longer limbs. Manes helps cushion the powerful impact. Lion's also go for back of the legs to sever tendons, no escape 4 Tiger's

  • First of all, all ...

First of all, all male lions have actively hunted in one period of their life. When? When they've been eschewed, kicked out from a pride. They may form coalitions with their brothers, for added success in a hunt. Additionally, more hunting experience doesn't add to your skill in FIGHTING.

    Two different things.
