That's called a typo. Most comments have them. By the way, I love how you inconsistently put quotes on one word but not the other. Why would you have done that?

  • Hi. We may have ...

Hi. We may have another discussion on morality going on the Part 8 page. I think this moral aspect is way more important to us all than pretending to explain the Big Bang or the consistency of the speed of light. You might agree with me on that. Our disagreement is that I think those parents you mention have to explain those dos and donts rationally (with reasons on earth and in this life) and not by dubious reference to what God wants versus what Satan wants.

  • I disagree with you ...

    I disagree with you.

Parents tell their children certain things: how to speak to others, how not to, what to eat, what not to, what to wear, what not to, what to do, what not to, etc.

At the time, most children completely disagree with their parents. But, as they grow older, they start to gain perspective.

It really is too bad that assumptions are made by human beings about God, simply because they cannot see "at the time" (while on earth) God's plan.

    Thank you for being polite!

  • twtheisen, one of ...

twtheisen, one of the unusual good things about this debate is in this opening section. On top of just the usual long-established irrationality of religious metaphysics, Barker directly challenges the morality. God and Christ, as revealed, are mediocre, primitive, flawed and inadequate moral guides. Morality (and spirituality) needs to be released from these primitive beginnings to flourish, just as medicine and meteorology and psychology needed to.

  • How is something ...

How is something eternal outside the universe and how did it create something from nothing? Great explanation! In so many ways, the design is defective, but you humbly say it was all designed for you. Hey, I saw a car with plate ABX4937 yesterday; think of all the molecules and events that had to conspire over the eons to make that happen; it's too improbable; it must be designed. And from that sort of basis, we should leap to Bronze Age books of evident stupidity for moral guidance?

  • Overdeveloped ...

Overdeveloped Critical thinking skills? What? Why is it primitive to see that a universe that is so intricate and balanced and even "made for us" in way (it's anthropic principle) had an outer designer? The universe could not have created itself because science has proven the universe is not eternal. Something eternal had to create the universe or nothing would have started. Belief in God is just as natural for humans as eating and drinking.

  • In reality, ...

In reality, Athiests are people who do not like the fact that an omnipresent being watches over them and ALL the things that they do and will hold them accountable for their actions. Christianity, the Ten Commandments and God's laws do not fit their lifestyle, so they rebuke and attack in a blatant attempt to falsify religion in order to make themselves feel better about how they live their lives.

Celebrate National Atheist's Day on April 1st of every year!!!

Actually, it's not that they don't have the God part of the brain, they have overdeveloped critical thinking parts of the brain that override the more primitive part.

so, if Dawkins didn't have the common cold, and everybody else in the world did, and nobody believed him when he said the cold was a virus, and they laughed and said, "he must be the one with the virus" would you be laughing with them?

  • I know! I love it ...

I know! I love it how Dawkins says those of us who believe in God have a form of "virus." Actually, it makes more sense for the atheists having a "virus." After all, the majority of people in the world believe in some sort of god. Seems believing in God is very natural and not believing is the virus.

Bahnsen pulverized Barker in the 80's. Barker knows better then to still be an atheist. His arguments have been refuted over and over again.

  • I wonder what sort ...

I wonder what sort of faith you had that never allowed you to question it,certainly not the one I have.Real faith gives you the courage to enter the dark night of the soul, more than once. What emerges is the result of the strength of your faith,in your case unbelief. You are still talking to me as if I am some kind of idiot without knowledge or experience.Never mind,I probably used to talk like that when I was thirty ;)

  • A teenager feels ...

A teenager feels strong emotions to an idol. Later, as adult, they feel silly for ever having emotions for that idol. How can this be? Experience and knowledge opens our eyes to what we first cannot see. "Faith" is the habit of avoiding such experience. It asks you to never question your belief. Real truth asks you to test it because it survives questioning.

You have dedicated your life to 'saving'people through the 'truth' you accidentally discovered..What makes you a saviour? You are a human being who has lost their faith.Suddenly, you are on a mission? You have swapped one set of strongly held opinions for another set. What was your attitude like when you were a strong believer?Did you see yourself as owning the 'truth'then too?I have a friend who is a psychiatrist and also christian, who specialises in cog/beh therapy. They missed your'truth'eh?
