Bobby Darin - Mack the Knife
Definitely, Mack the Knife has to be included in any anthology of the best songs of the 20th century.

It's amazing how it sounds in the end.
TanzenTanzen...Thank you it was asked in all sincerity and it is the only version I have heard. I remember my mom playing it over and over on our old vinyl 45's LOL

Just a quick defense of trsmorrow's question: As far as I can tell, trsmorrow simply thought this was a song by Bobby Darin, an American singer. The video description doesn't explain that the song is from the Three Penny Opera, and how would you know it wasn't written by Bobby Darin if his was the only version you'd ever heard? While plenty of people are overly America-centric, I don't think that was the case here.

See watch?v=DOxSUB3LuFc for a 1931 German film version. the play is about organized crime so you're not entirely wrong.
No, this song is a German song from the German Three Penny Opera musical. Not everything is about the US.

This song seems to be tied in with the mafiaoso way of life and the lyrics even suggest it.But this was recorded during Hoover's "There is no mafia" policy. I guess I'm asking if anyone knows if this was written ABOUT the mafia...another living person or just a terrific song by the late great Bobby Darin
