Girl attacked by Pit Bull
NewsChannel 15 has reported on several people who have been attacked by Pit Bull dogs already this year.
By Lindsay Tyner

On Wednesday morning, there was another attack. It took place in Hartsville and involved a 12-year-old girl.
Odaliz DeJesus was trying to take out the trash when she saw a black and white Pit Bull coming towards her. She got scared and ran.
"They say those dogs are real vicious, and, if it gets a hold of your neck, you're automatically gone. So, I was scared," she said.
Odaliz said the dog chased her, knocked her down, and started biting her.
"Scared that I was automatically going to lose my life right there, just thinking, oh my gosh, I'm about to lose it right here."
She almost made it to the back door when her mother, Brenda, heard the attack from inside the house.
"She was screaming. She was calling my name, 'Mommy! Mommy!'" DeJesus said.
Brenda and her boyfriend beat the dog with a water hose until it let up.
They then ran inside, but weren't safe there, either. The dog came in the open back door and started going towards the girl again.
Her family beat it off with a candle holder and then took the girl to the hospital.
"I'm glad that she's fine, cause the way that I see that, I thought I lost her in that moment," DeJesus said.
The dog was last seen about a week ago at a house on Sixth Street in Hartsville.
Police said the dog's owner, 18-year-old James Byrd of Hartsville, is in jail for assault and battery and armed robbery.
His relatives said the dog was always friendly when they saw it. Odaliz has a different story.
"He was growling and barking and biting me all at the same time trying to get a hold of my neck," she said.
Police said the dog is now quarantined and being tested for rabies.
They said when test results come back it will be up to The Department of Health and Environmental Control to decide what happens to the dog.
Police also said they're investigating who is responsible for the dog since its owner is incarcerated.
Officials warn to never run from a dog. Instead, slowly back away and avoid looking in the dog's eyes.

  • Each year, 4.7 ...

Each year, 4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs. These bites result in approximately 16 fatalities; about 0.0002 percent of the total number of people bitten. These relatively few fatalities offer the only available information about breeds involved in dog bites. There is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed, and consequently no measure to determine which breeds are more likely to bite or kill.

This from the cdc website if you want the link message me privately as it is long.

"A CDC study on fatal dog bites lists the breeds involved in fatal attacks over 20 years (Breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998). It does not identify specific breeds that are most likely to bite or kill, and thus is not appropriate for policy-making decisions related to the topic.

I wasnt responding to that comment, I was replying to the one where you think BSL means locking up people because of the type of dog they have. I do agree that we have separate views and should move on, your the ignorant one by assuming I dont love animals, perhaps myself and those who are proBSL just love other humans more and are willing to put other humans above property.

  • the response to you ...

the response to you saying no about all of us agreeing that we all have different views and we all should move on with it is that i am trying to be the bigger person and realizing that this is getting nowhere because you obviously are ingnorate and do not love animals. you do realise that for every dog there is an owner? if someone raises a dog to be aggressive he or she will be. if some one raises a dog to be a big baby he or she will be.For an ex. my neighbor has a non violent pitbull.

  • No, but your the ...

No, but your the one trying to put dogs and people on the same level, they are not, dogs are property. Looking at dogs as property, like they are, is what proBSL people have done to get BSL passed. You cant go to a courthouse hearing or city meeting and try to convince people that dogs and people are the same. Just think about it, thats is your main problem and also on of the reasons why BSL is getting passed, because proBSL dont think of dogs as human, they use the Law to get BSL passed.

I think myself, and all of you who've debated with me on this issue could duke it out for hours, and still get nowhere. Lets just come to an agreement on the fact that we have different views, allright?

Are you justifying locking people up just because of the type of dog they have? Even if they are responsible owners? Don't we have more pressing matters to worry about these days (sutch as National Security) as opposed to what type of dog someone owns?

I think we can agree on one thing: The entire pit bull issue is based on oppinion. I don't think we'll ever know for certain whether or not this breed is naturally vicious. You guys have your views, I have mine. Lets just accept that and move forward.

You actually made me laugh because you resorted to mocking me! To answer your question, yes, I still have that arm, butt if I hadn't jerked it back and backed away from the fence, the situation could've been a lot more grave. As I said to Bedlas, why don't we just agree to disagree.
