By farorin [Affiliate User] 1188747615 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMaybe thats the hardest challenge: do it so well that looks easy. Katas like nojuhachi ho and tekki shodan are realy minimalist but so hard to do perfect that you'll have to do them one million times to become a real karateca.
ps: sorry I don't know how to say karateca in english...
And i'd just like to say to everyone, i've been acting really obnoxious and childish, so i'm very sorry, will you please forgive me?
By ShotokanKarateRules [Affiliate User] 1188028850 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI've changed my mind now anyway, and have decided to do it next year in March, that way i will have been doing karate nearly 4 and a half years.
By ShotokanKarateRules [Affiliate User] 1188028793 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveKanazawa is so amazing, i respect him deeply.
By ShotokanKarateRules [Affiliate User] 1187084060 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell, it depends not on the number of years, but on the number of hours. If you train 6 hours per week, it will take you 4-5 years to get your black belt; but, if you train 15-20 hours a week, then 2-3 years seem right.
By malasangre [Affiliate User] 1187076633 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHIs karate is so beautiful largely because his basic techniques are perfect. The man can do no wrong.
By christianbrecht [Affiliate User] 1184784469 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveKanazawa sensei !
A true legend and one of the last great teachers.
Nohing but respect for him.
His Karate isSo beautiful.
Thanks for this clip.
red & white belt (stripes going widthways not lenghthways) is sometimes used by the senior instructor, when there are numerous black belts in the dojo.
Not really a sign of rank, but simply so folks (especially kids) know which 'black belt' is actually in charge!
You dont see it often, depends on persoanl preference.
Good to see the master in action these days. The Bruce Lee of Shoto's House
By mazorblock [Affiliate User] 1181482631 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOrbelus, My GOD! This man is amazing! very good kime. tadashi"hollywood"yamashita should go to this man and learn from him. Kanazawa Sensei is a true master!
I hate yamashita, he ruined Shorin-ryu karate for me.
tadashi is money hungry, contract signing bastard. Tell your student not to get fooled by yamashita or join any of his McDojos! KANAZAWA Sensei is awesome!
And who said i wasn't respecting SKIF, it is the world's largest and most respected karate organisations, why would i do that???
By ShotokanKarateRules [Affiliate User] 1179840812 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAt our school, red belt is 8th kyu.And i'm not doing any of those things you said. Like, you're climbing a mountain, trying to find the way. You ask somebody what the way is, too busy trying to get to the top, when you haven't even appreciated the beatiful mountain and lake beside you, that kinda thing. I like to look at the mountain and appreciate the wonderful lake, rather than be so determined to find 'the way'. Karate takes time, i know that.
By ShotokanKarateRules [Affiliate User] 1179840781 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehis hands are so fast! :P
By nickychanchan [Affiliate User] 1178496167 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePlease respect SKIF and its graduation system. There are no such think as red belts. And don't look at graduations and belts as a way to climb up the ladder, use karate and development of charater as your final goal, graduations will come naturally. Practice karate as karate, not as sport.
By IvoTimoteo [Affiliate User] 1177996725 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI think Kanazawa is truly great, but as for the Nijuhachibo kata itself, it does not seem too technically challenging, that's all I am saying.
By christianbrecht [Affiliate User] 1177444449 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGood but are there any videos on this site with Karate masters such as Kanazawa is proper fights?
By maybugz [Affiliate User] 1176378387 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAfter first kyu we have to wait at least 6 months to go for Shodan. Most people wait about 9 months to a year or more at our club, no longer than 2 years. Just saying this - I'm not American, i love and know alot about karate and Japan + the Japanese language AND i only pay £15 for a grading lol. I wasn't saying you were aiming that at me, because i know you weren't, but i'm just saying lol :D
By ShotokanKarateRules [Affiliate User] 1176214517 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSorry about the breifness of that comment, by the way, I had to shorten it alot so that it could fit in :P Did you hear about that 2 year old who got her red belt! Omg! Lol
By ShotokanKarateRules [Affiliate User] 1176214503 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt is really weird that someone can go for shodan test that soon. In our dojo students have to wait at least 1 year after ikkyu, so the total time comes basically to 5-6 years of hard training. However, I've seen a lot of Americans with brown and black belts, who know nothing in karate, but paid a lot of $ for gradings. If you attend seminars with prominent karate masters you'll never go wrong.
By fandorin74rus [Affiliate User] 1175862955 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove3 yrs to get ur shodan, were u fast tracked? lol it takes 5 or more years on average, it used to take 10yrs and the grading would b impossible, how come it only took 3? do you do freestyle karate? does ur dojo do a lot of competitions?
By bboywonder13 [Affiliate User] 1175789758 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThanks! I'm hoping to get my Shodan in September. I started training 3 years ago, so that seems about right. Omg I'm competing in this tournament soon, it's the first one i've ever done! Apart from this random club one like 2 years ago...Anyway i really hope i do go to Japan some day, it sounds really awsome.
By ShotokanKarateRules [Affiliate User] 1174999493 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCool, you are so lucky, I wish I started training when I was your age. If you're still training 19 you'll be an awesome competitor. I got really lucky for a while and had a job that took me to Japan every year, so, I'd stay and train after work. It's really great, you'll go one day, and, you'll love it. Good luck on your sho-dan
By w4z4r1 [Affiliate User] 1174998708 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCool.With our school,it goes like this;
Orange belt-9th kyu
Red belt-8th kyu
Yellow-7th kyu
Green-6th kyu
Purple-5th kyu
Purple with a white stripe-4th kyu
Brown-3rd kyu
Brown with a white stripe-2nd kyu

And WOW you've trained with the JKA???And WOW you've been to Japan??? Lol i haven't seen much, i'm only 13 :P. What's it like in Japan? It's like, a totally different culture. I can speak a little Japanese, i'm learning it.
