hi broodm, im not a fencing coach, but i can put in my two cents worth. firstly, you don't need to let someone faster than you on foot chase you all the way to the end of the strip. if they get too close too quickly, take one or two steps back and be prepared to counterattack or parry-riposte. regardless of how fast they are with their footwork, you can always keep someone like that at bay by threatening them with your point (or a parry if you are a foilist or sabreur, which gives your priority.

thanks, that was my problem back then (i always skip training then i had the worst footworks in the place.lol). Well now since you put it that way -IMO i hav the worst point control

or with very bad footwork. they use amazing point control which consists of distance and timing. speed is like a cool accessory in fencing.

then you have to practice foot work, also why would you let him/her take control of the bout? by the sound of it, you're intimidated by the speed of your opponent when speed isn't exactly 100% assential in the game. you let them take control of the tempo of the bout and you're being pushed back to the end of the strip. when you're being pushed, simply take 2 steps back and one fast step foward. that almost always helps you regain control. watch other vids too. i've seen people win bouts without

i know how important are the timing and distance- EX. how can you keep up if the opponent can move twice faster,(he makes 3steps back by the time your on to 1-1/2 forward step he would have made a touche)
And IMO without speed, you can't have both- so i think being balance is better.(No need for flaming-andrewzot)

if you are slower than your opponent, you can still win if you have better TIMING and DISTANCE. understand?

but how can you keep up w/ the distance if the opponent is faster than you.
he'll take advantage that you moved slower than him

Aldo Montano is amazing. I think that people still hit hard in electric fencing because i get hurt sometimes.

its getting better on that respect the electric scoring system has been changed so that the blade or tip must be depressed on the opponent for a longe time before a point is scored, this has eliminated the cheap 'flick' and forces fencers to always hit with some sort of thrusting motion, and not just their wrists.

Fencing is awesome, but electrical fencing is sort of killing the tradition of fencing. Fencing was origionally designed to teach people swordfighting, and how to kill someone. If electrical fencers were using real swords, they would barely even scrape the enemy, unlike if a normal fencer was using a sword.

zigurratm.. I would have to disagree. watching fencing live is alot better than watching fencing on a screen... you lose the intensity and often alot of the blade movements.

Love the slow motion. You can see every move. Maybe if they showed it this way on TV it might become a Tv spectators' sport so that people could see what is happening.

lol, no. The problem with modern fencing is that for the casual observer it needs to be slowed down.
