They have the atvantage of lower unsprung weight and center of gravity as well as inducing a sway bar effect allowing for the fitment of smaller sway bars to further reduce unsprung weight. They also cost far more than what coil springs would. The only reason it is not fitted to every sports car is due to packaging requirements for the spring and their lack of adjustability. The GT-R's AWD system is the one component that makes up for its weight and power disatvantage.

Not to be patronizing, but you have a very skewed view of the corvette. The leaf springs on the Corvette have absolutely no relation to the truck springs you refer to. The suspension is a SLA fully independant setup, same as any racing car, and the springs themselves are actually monoleaf, transverse, composite springs spaning the width of the car.
