Actually, they sorta did, Jason didn't seem to mind stepping down, he was just glad that his friend was back. Remember a few episodes back in 'Missing Green', Jason was racked with guilt cuz he blamed himself for Tommy losing his powers in the first place.

Although technically it was Zack's fault, Jason had an open opportunity to grab the candle, but then Zack appeared and stopped him.

It's funny; they never show Jason's reaction when Zordon makes Tommy the new leader.

I remember when this episode first premiered, it never dawned on me that Tommy could be the White Ranger. I've heard rumors and they even through red herrings into the show with Curtis and Richie, but I was shocked, but delighted at the revelation. Although it was somewhat suspicious that just before commerical break when the helmet comes off, Kim faints, so that was a clue. Cuz surely she wouldn't faint at seeing Curtis or Richie, I think if it had been Richie, Trini woulda fainted.

I love Tommy, but it's messed up that he just walks back in and takes Jason's place as the leader. lol!
