I think they're approximately 2 weeks old in age. I didn't strip them from their mom so they were a good size when she finally released them.

any time when my gilrs are "pregnant"... :) ...i'm just waiting the moment when the spawn in the mouth will turn to fry.
Then i very gently take "mother" and shake out fries from the mouth into another small tank or just can (of course with airing and heater)

  • remove the rocks, ...

remove the rocks, and put her in a separate space. my fish didn't release any of her fry until i moved her to a separate holding area where she couldn't see any other fish (danger). when no one was around, she released the fry. whenever she saw me, she scooped them back into her mouth. if you can't separate her, make sure she has plenty of hiding space for her and her fry.

Our Rio 300 is set up for Malawi Cichlids and we mainly have mouth brooders, now we think one may be pregnant, our first. the girl appears to have a sack like bit under her jaw, which looks from other pictures on the internet like she may be incubating eggs. The problem we have is we don't have anymore tanks or space available and because of the rock work in the tank,it is virtually impossible to catch any of the fish. Is there anything we can do to improve her chances.

  • they're bad for ...

they're bad for full grown cichlids cuz they're pure protein, and they're supposed to have mostly vegetable matter. but they're fine for growing fry that are attracted to live, moving food. I feed my full grown cichlids food very low in protein (around 30%) and high in vegetable/algae matter.
