On Tuesday, she bravely stood before cameras that carried her image around the globe as the recipient of the world's first full face transplant.
But what has resonated as much as the impressive medical milestone was her message, asking people to be more considerate of others who live with deformities.
"I just want to say that, when somebody has a disfigurement, or don't look as pretty as you do, don't judge them, you never know what happened to them"
Her message hits close to home for an Ohio man whose story aired on FOX 8 News last month. Ed Port, 38, has a genetic disorder known as neurofibromatosis which has caused tumors to form on the left side of his face. Connie's message is one that he has tried to sound himself through his own experiences.
"I was in a grocery store," he told Fox 8 News,"and it was a child probably about three years old with her mother and her father and the child was facing toward me and the mother looked at me in shock and covered up her son's eyes."
