Sixty years ago this July, something happened in the desert about 100 kilometers northwest of Roswell, New Mexico. A local newspaper at the time reported that a flying saucer had crashed and that the wreckage had been taken to the U.S. Army Air base just outside of Roswell. The military said it had been a weather balloon that crashed.

But many people who research UFOs -- unidentified flying objects -- think aliens from another planet crashed in New Mexico and they have made the Roswell incident a major focus of their attention. Local people have decided to go along with all, much to their profit.

There are some scenic places in New Mexico for tourists to visit. But they are all about a two hour's drive from Roswell. Very few tourists came here before the aliens arrived.

Roswell's big attraction now is the UFO Museum and Research Center. Sandy James is deputy director. "Basically, a long time ago, if you came to Roswell, you were lost. Now, if you come to Roswell, you are coming to see the museum."

People from around the world flock here to see exhibits about the July 1947 incident and other UFO stories. They also buy lots of souvenirs.

Roswell, a town of some 50,000 people, will double in size during the four days of the 60th anniversary UFO Festival in early July.

One of the serious Roswell residents is former Texas civil engineer Dennis Balthaser. He says his investigations have convinced him that the U.S. military did recover a crashed alien craft 60 years ago and hid it from the public.

It is not likely that any dramatic new evidence will emerge at the upcoming UFO conference here to change anyone's mind one way or the other on the Roswell incident.

But the questions about what happened here 60 years ago will never be resolved unless, of course, the aliens themselves were to pay a return visit just to clear things up.

  • Captain Bowey was ...

Captain Bowey was flying a tri-lander (a very small plane takes about 18 people) and saw a "very sharp, thin yellow object with a green area. It was 2,000ft up and stationary" Radar didn't pick it up and the MoD weren't interested. Sound like a lenticular cloud lit by the sun. I have seen one myself and they are very odd to see.

No disrespect to this pilot of 20 years but his plane is basicaally a bus with wings and I doubt he would be upto date with secret aviation projects

  • I disagree and im ...

I disagree and im sure he would with the intelligence he has. As for being a missile lol i do not think ever in history has one passed over the island of guernsey lol, when you say cutting edge aviation what do you mean? you have to be some what of an expert to fly a passenger planer which he has over 20 years. He was asked wether it was a balloon, military aircraft, cloud formations, light of green houses i could go on and he said in the 20 odd years flying this what not man made. take care

  • Youre not being ...

Youre not being rude at all and its a fair question.

Partly it hoping that someone may produce convincing evidence & partly it to make people challenge what they are told to be true

I know of the case you are talking about & I don't know the answer but I wouldn't go for the ET solution. Just because he is a commercial pilot doesn't make him an expert in cutting edge aviation, missiles, etc. Its like a bus driver trying to describe the latest land speed vehicle go flashing by

  • Not wanting to ...

Not wanting to sound rude, but if you no longer believe then why come here, i mean you must of put into the search box, ufos or aliens!! is this because you still want to believe? or maybe you trying to put others off? There are so many fakes out there and so many hoaxes to make money from this, but after seeing an interview with a BRITISH! airways pilot of 30 years in the business on the richard and judy show, theres no doubt which he said it was not man made at all!

  • To s3ansk1 I ...

    To s3ansk1

I used to be believe in them, as a child, but after following and studying the subject for over 40 years I have come to the conclusion that lights in sky and the wild stories ,such as Roswell, are not proof of alien visitation to earth.

I have come to belief based on the appalling standards adopted by some 'so called' UFO Investigators and the gullibility of the UFO community to jump at the ET solution first rather than do a proper investigation

    Remember "Occam's razor "
