Cotton balls soaked with petroleum jelly is an excellent fire starter. I show you using a Swedish Firesteel. It's cheap, easy to make, light, and effective. It stays lit for minutes. It will work in rainy conditions, and when damp. Finding dry natural tinder in wet weather can be very difficult. This is your solution. I take some with me every time I venture into the great outdoors.
DRYER LINT its free and burns better

Birch bark has resin and oils in it that ignite like paper and keep burning for awhile. The next thing i'm gonna tell you, you should only do in an emergency or when it's completely nessesary. You can take your knife and cut a thick strip of bark of the tree. It will peel of the tree in a circle all the way around. This works great. IT WILL most likley kill the tree. Practice: only dead tree or outer shavings

keep on going ryan, great easy realistic info!
Oh my bad dude, I see now that I wasn't clear enough. (Thanks!) I was actually asking mrjxn the question about impregnating the cotton balls with the baby oil. I wanted to know how long they kept after saturating them with the baby oil before they started to possibly dry out. They work great when you immediately use them--better than the petroleum jelly.
I've been using stored P.J.-cotton balls for years. But hey man, nice video. A lot better than some of the other videos on tinder.
Thanks for the suggestion. For some reason this comment was never sent to my inbox. It's been happening quite a bit. Thanks

By ryanjcus [Affiliate User] 1223936705 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe tinder in this demo was at least a month old. I took it from my kit. I didn't make it for the vid. P.J. lasts years. Thanks Dude.

Jelly-cotton ball. I'm very impressed with the baby oil. It lasted quite a few minutes longer than old faithful (i.e., Petroleum Jelly).
I guess my main question is, does it work as well stored as it does when you impregnate the cotton ball immediately? If not, hey, least it's a better backyard tinder.
Thanks for the suggestion.
mine didint get that black that fast mine lasted 30 min then i got board and poured water on it

By McNoots [Affiliate User] 1223930930 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebaby oil also works on cotton balls and its a little cleaner than pj
By mrjxn [Affiliate User] 1223175626 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI've seen P jelly last for Many Years in it's original container. I would give the Cotton and PJ a shelf life of a least 2 years, minimum. Thanks
