No way! McDonnell Douglas is (or was, I might say) a good airplane manufacturer. The MD 11 was good, the issue was a defect with this particular airplane, not the model as a whole. And some airlines still use it!

Talk about a tough way to make a living: an ATC. That poor guy probably still blames himself and is in psychotherapy. I wonder if he's still an ATC?

Guys, if you say "skip the checklist" and you don't know anything about flying, just don't say anything about it.

The reading checklist procedure did not crash the plane, but the step "close all air conditioning doors" made it only worse.

if they say they needed to stay ok until 10h27 and they collapsed at 10h24,then they wouldnt actually ever land safely.the lost time by studying the check list,or by dumping fuel,were worthy time.they were also too high for a landing,also actually anything the pilots could do wouldnt help to save that plane.

McDonnell Douglas is gay, they have the worst safety records as an aircraft manufacturer. I am not happy that they merged with boeing, which worries me if they merged their faulty aircraft designs too. MD is always falling out of the sky. It is amazing how many MD planes are part of air crash investigation!!

Well as long as people can gamble and watch TV, who cares if they die. What is it that makes people so stupid? What were these designers thinking?

They would have flown Swiss-built airplanes, but it's tough to load people and baggage on a kite. Hindenberg ring a bell? How about the worst disaster in commercial aircraft history directly caused by a celebrated German pilot. Now...GFYAH.

well you know,if you´re at the end of the check list,and dont know what was the problem,you are a DEAD MAN,but if you first of all land,AND check the check list,you dont maybe know what the F**k problem is,but you´re ALIVE...this is the diffirent.

Do you watch these videos before making comments? They clearly explain (starting around 4:15) how the pilots made it worse by not landing immediately. Also, the two pilots talking over the radio at the same time was the reason the dispatcher didn't hear they had to land right now.

Because you can measure the speed of breathing. They were calm. Yet, of course, if the american cheaply built airplane starts to burn, it's not amazing that you must breathe harder.

You usually don't burn to death. It's the lack of oxygen that is lethal. You loose consciousness before the flames kill you.

what? fire DOES NOT kill you instantly... being burned to death is extremely painful and slow... especially if it's just foam and plastic burning and not jet fuel.

It wasn't really a big problem (smoke from the AC unit is not rare but it dosn't happen all the time) up until the last minute.
