No black holes will be created. It's a Microblack hole, that wouldn't even be harm to us all. The earth is hit by energies higher that the LHC. We are still here, aren't we?

Its some F**king ring of magnetic force in low tempurture and the test will take place in this wendsday

if the sincetists are right they gona understand the truth what happned few minutes after the big-bang

if they are wrong thier might be a chance that a black hole will apper and kill us all :D!

  • ...This has to be ...

    ...This has to be stopped!

RHIC has supposedly already created a black hole that will act as a ticking time bomb, noone knows when we'll see the effect of that so let's make another, bigger one!

You absolutely patronising morons! Maybe you would like to die chasing a dream but this is not a dream for the general public, stop it now!

  • If the theory of ...

If the theory of hawking radiation is even slightly wrong we are in trouble. The fact the safety of this experiment is based around unprovable theoretical science is ludicrous! How can theoretical science stand up in court, people are too scared to challenge the selfish scientists running this because they assume they must know more then people who are not on the project but they could easily have made a mistake...

well according to the theory of hawking radiation that is true...but its not a widley adopted or reaserched theory - yet another reason the LHC mey be usefull

  • Actually, I believe ...

Actually, I believe a black hole could develop momentarily but it would not likely remain long enough to make any real difference. Wouldn't it dissipate after a small fraction of a second?

  • theres always risks ...

theres always risks with science experiments. no1 ever knows what realy going to happen when they do something for the first time - but the media have gone a bit OTT
mini black holes my arse.....dya know how much energy it takes to make a black hole?
a sun so big your tiny mid wont even be able to imagine it - gravity so strong that it could get the earth into a breifcase.
we would never be able to make gravity like that

  • Just to be clear ...

    Just to be clear here:

Even the scientists running this have agreed there is a one in however man million chance this could go wrong. If there is no definite safety it is really not worth it is it?

And secondly, I'd just like a question answered. Are the concerns that it may go wrong when it is switched on, on the 10th or when they make it's first collisions in October?

  • The running costs ...

The running costs do not justify the experiment, no matter how Nobel! When the whole world has cheap electricity, sure, build this thing! Oh well, too late now! BTW, it uses more electricity than the whole of Geneva - when idling, even more when fully cranked! Patience is a virtue!!

  • In my opinion, what ...

In my opinion, what is money - to this project? this is life, we have evolved to find out about life, and yet, the next bigger LHC will take a couple of decades due to funding? why? becuase rich people don't want to donate to science, i guess they just know/don't want to know about it. Or maybe they just like appearing in the 'richest person of the year' books (sarcastic exaggeration of course).
