  • The long version is ...

The long version is the reason why this phenomenal song went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart(or its 1970 equivalent).
Diana Ross recorded the duet version with The Supremes & The temptations.
I've posted that track as a response to this one. She gives great performances in both versions.

38 years old and still a favourite, how can anybody ever tire of this record, the production, Diana's voice, the strings, everything. Motown set some high standards back in the day.

I can't get over how amazing the song is. It's like part-ballad, part-opera, part-spoken word, part-soul and part-gospel! To say this song was far different from "The Motown Sound" would be an understatement!

  • It's obvious that ...

It's obvious that the radio edit version was so incomplete. It's like she talks a little and then we jump into chorus and jump right into the brief instrumental. I'm glad you posted the complete version because the flow is much more natural and less jumpy. I remember, I had to constantly rewind the instrumental part on my player just to enjoy those brief ten seconds on the edited version. LOL!
