International
First of all, this is a collection from YouTube. I would like to thank all the enthusiasts from YouTube especially Mr. Boyd Kelly (airboyd of YouTube) which I used their best fragments to make this special Kai Tak video.
Kai Tak Airport VHHH (1925 - 1998) VHHX (since 1998) "traditional Chinese: 啟德機場" was the world's busiest international airport. The growth of Hong Kong put a strain on the airport's capacity. The airport was designed to handle 24 million passengers per year but in 1996, Kai Tak had already handled 29.5 million passengers, plus 1.56 million tonnes of freight, making it the third busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic, and first in terms of cargo. However extremely busy Kai Tak was located in the city center, the Kowloon City "九龍城" (The city of nine dragons "city surrounded by nine mountains"), around by high density buildings, numerous skyscrapers and rugged mountains reaching an altitude of 2000 ft. with single narrow runway close to taxiway jutting out into Victoria Harbour, and further less than 10 Km is Hong Kong Island, another densely populated area with hills up to 2100 ft., the airport was infamously difficult to land at. However, due to the same reason, only experience pilots were chosen for the challenging approach and air crash incidents rarely occur.
The low altitude manoeuvre was so spectacular that crowded streets of people, multi-storey buildings, vehicles and pavements can easily be "touch", you can hear "WOW" or "My God" from passengers when they see the flickering of televisions even children say "Hi" to them through apartment windows as their aircraft approached the airport's landing strip. In this video, you can found the most extremely landing, but these happened several hundred times per day, and was just the real daily life of Hong Kong people.

By PilotKev170 [Affiliate User] 1213196665 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveConcord landed at Kai Tak airport many times. It was one of the few places it was permitted to land. I flew to HKG in 1997 before it was closed, overnighted for 2 nights watching planes arrive and depart including the concord.
By redskinhp [Affiliate User] 1212908535 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhen it was new, some pilots over ran cos it was so short. I don't think the concorde was in hong kong, the runway is less than half of whats needed.
By rcheliboy [Affiliate User] 1212813171 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI was too yung to remember those landings on school holidays, shame. Its not right to be in hong kong and on a big strip of runway

Landing at Chep Lap Kok with the windshear is just not the same...I landed at Kai Tak once in typhoon signal no.3 and the trolly dollies handed out plastic pants to everyone before the descent

i wonder what happens if they crash into a building... will they say its totally my fought or say its the airports problem for putting it there at the first place
I was 5 when it closed...
I can only say that the pilots are brave and great!!
Thank you for the video, with great music. Brings back fond memories of when I was at school in Kowloon and used to watch these planes come over on final approach. Our favourite was the Pan Am 747 SP!
