Got 3 catfish last night - one at 4AM - about 1 lb channel on magic bait - let it go - re-baited.

This morning I had about a 2 lb channel on another magic bait yoyo - was going to keep it - was going to net it from boat - after I ran trotline - but when ran trotline got a 16 lb 3 oz flathead - then I forgot to 'net the Channel catfish so when I picked up the yoyo from the fishing pier it got off

I got lucky - I don't have to clean any fish - cause I gave the flathead to my neighbor's relatives visiting from Missouri (one's that helped catch bream)

In video I said flathead wrapped around trotline - but that was stupid (was still excited :) - I know why it's tail is all red - the trotline weight and line to it are very close to the end hook on the trotline - where I got this flathead i.e. he beat his tail up on the trotline weight and the line to the weight - the hooks are too far apart for him to get into the next hook and I have a lot of tension on the line.

  • What's your ...

What's your favorite way to catch bream/batifish? I sometimes use a cast net, but more recently started using a large wire bait trap I built out of welded wire. It's great because I can set is out and let it do all the work! I copied the design of a trap sold at Academy Sports. It's about 2 feet on each side and about 1 foot tall with a funnel on each side.

I've been baiting it with tuna flavored cat food, but it seems to catch some fish even when not baited.

I live near the hwy 89 landing and fish that same area. I caught my first fish out of this lake in early 50's - before the lake had crappie (and not many bass). I always lived in town but promised some day I would retire and live here e.g. now living my dream and catching all the catfish I need :) :)

Learned to fish on Lake Conway. Use to put in at the Old Highway 89 Landing and fish the lower portion of the lake near the Palarm Creek Channel. Lots of Cats, Crappie and Bass. I loved that Lake. This was back in the 70's

Yes it was Lake Conway - and the next day my neighbor got a 17.5 lb flathead
(BTW: He and others catch a lot more fish than I do - and they only fish on the weekends - but they run lines near the channel and I just run a live close to my house so I can paddle home i.e. I'm lazy and others catch a lot more - such as 8 - 10 lbs - 12lb all in same night (all together one neighbor got about 18 flathead in one Month (while I got 5 catfish that same month :)
