Turn up the volume for this one! Another live tv studio session with Heath on pipes, Joe on Guitars, Alan on Bouzouki, Lynne on Bodhran, Paul on Bass and me on the drum. Great fun!

For those who've noticed the guitars sound a bit out of tune - you're right. It was a really hot day in the studio and we were struggling to keep anything in tune for more than a minute. We still think this is worth putting on YouTube. A few years on we have an additional band member and we're a lot better. Come and see us!

Our band is called "Slainte" and we are based in the UK at http://www.celtmusic.co.uk

Considering there are bagpipes throughout Europe, is it not more likely the Roamns brought them to British Isles?

  • Sorry not "daughter ...

Sorry not "daughter of". It still means "son of" but it refers to the son of a mother and not a father.

  • I'm strongly ...

I'm strongly nationalist too but so little is known of the Picts that it's impossible to say if the Scots adopted them from the Picts or not. It's quite possible that this is what happened. Who's to know for sure?
Many things we know of the Picts were adopted into Scots culture. The Kingdom of Alba for starters is now considered to be a term instigated by the Picts. Picts followed a maternal line too. This is where we get names like "Nicholson" from. A bit like "Mac", "Nic" means "daughter of"

  • I'm sorry Scoob but ...

I'm sorry Scoob but you are wrong on a few things there mate. We won't get into the Gaelic thing again but,
    1. There is no such thing as "Scottish bagpipes" as such. There's many different typs attributed to Scotland the most common being the "Great Highland Bagpipe".
    2. Kilts are widely accepted to be traditionally Scots with a few areas of Ireland having them aswell. Tartan however is another matter.
    3. Scotland means and can only mean "land of the Scots".

    Saorsa!
