    And those earlier records by Death weren't probably even considered such a thing as "death metal" back then.

    well...some people think death started it because they had a cd called death by metal that came out a year before possessed's album called death metal.and there was also a compilation cd that was released by noise records in the same year possessed's album came out called death metal

    That's right, Lamb of God is not death metal.
    I'd call it aggressive groove metal with a little bit metalcore influence.
    Death metal was born in 1983, when the first DM bands were founded. And actually, Possessed invented the genre, not Death.
    Possessed invented the term, then bands like Death, Morbid Angel and Necrophagia helped to define it better.
