  • This is just ...

This is just haunting and beautiful. Maybe a primitive sound to those not familiar with old-time revival singings and Sacred Harp teaching, but for a country girl who was raised on primitive Gospel, it sounds & feels just like home to me.

  • WOOOOOW! I've read ...

WOOOOOW! I've read so much about how Sacred Harp singing got started. Weren't these published in Alabama? I've read about the singing camps and traveling instructors who taught in communities. So wonderful this is being preserved. I read there is a convention going on right now in Birmingham (weekend of June 13-15).

  • Wonderful to read ...

Wonderful to read this. "Rocky Road" is an absolute favorite of mine. We hope that all these fine voices will never be lost, but will continue to sing for as long as there are ears to listen.

  • So Glad to see/hear ...

So Glad to see/hear so much Sacred Harp! Rocky Road a favorite of my family by J.C. Brown arr. Paine Denson 1935
In Preface to the original 1936 published "Original Sacred Harp (Denson Revision), my grandfather, L.W. Overton is listed as a person that made this songbook possible. I have my father's, Ethridge M. Overton, copy, he used it in singing class at Double Springs,Al in the 30's.Both loved Sacred Harp and went to numerous singings and led "Weeping Mary""Homeward Bound""Murillo's Lesson"
