"Wowowee, the popular game show from the Philippines is here in Winnipeg. How fans were wowed at the MTS Centre."
One of North America's largest Filipino communities was treated to a live episode of one of their home country's most popular game shows Sunday.
Thousands of Filipino Winnipeggers got to take in Wowowee at the MTS Centre.
It's part of the show's world tour, which also includes stops in Dubai, Houston, and London.
The popular Filipino game show is unlike anything on TV in North American right now.
It features a lot of dancing, colourful outfits, and what you may think are bizarre contests.
But of course, it wouldn't be a game show without some big prizes.
Sunday's audience members had a chance to win prizes such as cars, cash and computers.
They also got to see a rising music star, 16-year-old singer Charice Pempengco.
"She got her start in a singing contest in the Philippines, but she didn't win," Wowowee promoter Lala Aunor explained to CTV News. "She was only discovered on youtube."
Ellen Degeneres has since featured the teen on her show, and so has Oprah Winfrey.
