This is a video of one of my personal favorites by Led Zeppelin, "When the Levee Breaks". The song was released in 1971 on the untitled album, otherwise known as Led Zeppelin IV or the Four Symbols Album. The song was improvised from a version done in the 30s by Memphis Minnie More»

Um no it isn't, Menphis Minnie never got credit or royalties, so there fore never got money that she deserved, it wasn't like she was rich eather, yes other bands have done simular things, but none have made millions like Zepplin. Face it they are not Rock Gods.

Try to create something without backing yourself up with inspirations from what you know and/or love. Music nowadays is almost straight rip-off of past hits, but still sounds fresh. Led Zeps are bunch of megatalented guys.If you can't recognize it, better stay silent.

The reason they didn't bother to give royalties is because the song is so different. They got their inspiration for this song from Mephis Minnies song. Can you really tell a similarity between the two? Because I can't. They changed this song so much that Memphis Minnie shouldn't have been credited anyway because it is all Zeppelin, excluding some of the lyrics. Which isn't a big deal anyways, because there are a lot of blues terms that ALL blues artist used, that were like a 'blues dictionary'.

.....contd: 2. Can you give me of some examples of the Beatles being influenced by others? These examples should be backed by more credible sources than just you. And btw, they were the first to "do" psychedelic rock. 3. It is appropriate for Def Leppard to be influenced by LZ, since they are such a big band (LZ), the same does not apply for the so called case of the elevators affecting LZ. The elevators are less than a footnote in the evolution of rock, and that analogy cannot thusly be used.

Creative? That comes as a second nature to me. I know where you're getting at, that creativity is honed through past influences. But who is to say that they have to be copies of other bands? It can easily be past experiences, affairs, etc. There is not a shred of evidence that LZ was "influenced" by the elevators. 1. LZ cannot be confined to one genre, that much is true. With your self acclaimed superior knowledge of rock, you should know that ,"Heavily Blues influenced rock" is not a genre.Cont

And they didn't give her credit or royalties for that "improvised" version, so got sued, and lost and so now Memphis Minnie is crdited and her estate is payed royalties viva a court order.

Its stealing because when you want to record and realse someone elses song comercaly(sic) you must ask the song writters permission and pay him royalties and give him credit on the album.Lead Zep did not do this so it falls under plagurism, and they got sued and they lost and were forced to pay royalities, give crdit on record sleves.

are you a creative person? because in the business we call this 'influences', not stealing. the better you are, the more influences you draw from. 2. i don't think you can confine LZ to a single genre. musical breakthroughs come from combining, not seperating. 3.the beatles are a good case: of course they were into bands that were less succesful commerically. they didn't invent psychedelic music. even less pink floyd. Def Leopard were influenced by LZ but it's hardly the same style of music?

....As I was saying, I don't see the conceptual wisdom that you are adhering to, concerning the fact that successful bands steal ideas from unsuccessful bands. What about the Beatles? Probably the biggest commercial success in rock. Did they steal from the "underground?" I don't think so. Also, the elevators and LZ are from totally different, and un-related genres. Acid rock vs Heavily Blues influenced rock? If you knew what acid rock was, you would see the difference.

I chose it because it accurately depicts the significance of your comment, while it is at the same time understandable by the general public, by most accords. So, you are trying to say that LZ (Led Zepp) only had a greater audience because they stole musical knowledge from the elevators? And that successful bands steal ideas from those that are unsuccessful? I dont see the logic in that. (this is going to be continued, no space)
