I am writing from France.
Dan Fogelberg is almost unknown here.
You can only afford one or two, perhaps three of his latest albums.
Nobody knows he died recently.
The last time I heard this superb song, it was in 1977 or 1978, quite a long time ago, but I've always had the tune in mind.
I am moved.
Adieu Dan.
thanks for the positive on Dan's music. the hostilehotelwalls was being a jerk. It was purely a disagree to agree. I love the fact that he did it his way, not the way the music industry wanted. I love all the voices of Dan.Men in particular, their voices do change with maturity. I love the fact that his music also matured with him and it never sounded the same or sounded as a copy of someone else, as we have in today's music. That to me, is what made him unique and special. Gotta love him!

And while the earliest works are tied up with my youthful reminiscences (giving them a certain emotional resonance that only magnifies with time), the musical stuff he pulls off on his more mature releases (vocals included) kicks ass.
By nvpublictv [Affiliate User] 1214045231 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI agree Dan was the best. I disagree that the voice change was negative. Sure, I missed the falsetto, but the tonsil situation gave all kinds of new colors to his voice. We got to hear him as angelic voiced boy and as a real manly man too. I consider that a gift, and his post Innocent Age releases too. Sopranos and tenors shouldn't have all the acclaim, y'know.

By Jokarilon [Affiliate User] 1213824337 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDan Fogelberg has written many terrific tunes, but this one certainly tops it,and the images in this video, especially the lightening are terrific peice that goes with the song! The song is heart wrenching yet it represents a reality that almost no one is willing to own up to in his or her family with such dysfunction. While I dont take drugs, I did grow up in a house that was never really a home, and I can relate to the feeling of completely estrangement and isolation.
By Pilotpatty1 [Affiliate User] 1213822411 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveEveryone disagrees with me. He had tonsillitis but after the surgery, he couldn't sing falsetto. It changed the way he wrote and sang. He is still my favorite artist but everything after 1980 was a B album or less. Let's be honest. On a lot of those Albums he had one to two good songs. That is a far cry from all of the songs being great. Windows/Walls was the exception. He was underrated as a musician and the best song writer ever. Remember "Fan" is short for "Fanatic". Be honest about Dan.
By hostilehotelwalls [Affiliate User] 1213531124 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI am going to disagree with Windows and Walls being the last of the good work he did. I feel many had a problem with also the voice change, when he had his tonsils removed, which lowered the pitch. Window and Walls was the first album out since he had them removed. I find it interesting to hear many changes in his voice thorough out the album.High Country Snows,Exiles&The Wild Places were well produced albums.I agree his early works are just awesome. How can you not mention The Innocent Age?

By mokacode [Affiliate User] 1213419125 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis was Dan's last good Album. "Nether Lands" was Perfect. Nothing was going to come close to Home Free, Souvenirs, Captured Angel and Nether Land. The Windows and Walls was very good. Anyway, Dan was the best!!!!!!!!!
By hostilehotelwalls [Affiliate User] 1213101891 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI discovered this song and this singer by a work colleague who bought the LP in USA in 1984.
This song is awesome and it's the best Dan Fogelberg one. I like the lyrics too. What a terrific story!
Note that if you paste "&fmt=18" at the end of the URL it will play in stereo.
Thanks & more power to you!
By Jokarilon [Affiliate User] 1212512908 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhat a F**king awesome, incredible, fantastic song!!!!! such a good story, spanic guitar scales, just great...somehow it reminded my of Hazzard by Richard Marx or the wild rose from nick cave...awesome, just that, thank for the vid. it was really well done and the lightnings at the end were just te right image for the moment, good job!!!
By bollekinn [Affiliate User] 1212505873 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis song reminds me of my first love whom had moved to Tucson. I was so smitten with her and didn't know how to tell her. I never did find out. Dan always reaches me where I fountain love from in my heart.
Though I have nothing in common with the main character in this story, I will always feel close to this song.
Critics are typically frustrated artists without the talent to move on, and bitter that someone else could. They tend to write to impress one another rather than provide helpful insight to others. Those of us that didn't get caught up in peer pressure and actually appreciate music for its pure, intrinsic qualities are in awe of how much talent this one man had. Perhaps in death others may one day know, but at one of his shows, you could tell you were in the presence of something amazing.

By Jokarilon [Affiliate User] 1207667411 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou are so welcome! The other song on this album, Sweet Magnolia and The Traveling Salesman is actually a song about his life with his first wife Maggie. Knowing that,it really gave life to the song. Peace

By Jokarilon [Affiliate User] 1207666222 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCan't believe the critics ripped this album apart. Ok, so it's not The Innocent Age. He was still riding the tails of TIA in his song writing.I found it interesting how his voice sounds so different on many songs. Having his voice lowered by having his tonsils out at the age of 30. This song had to be recorded before his surgery? It still sounds as it did on TIA. I love listening to the changes of his voice through out the album. Love the music and the voice behind it.

By nannerbj [Affiliate User] 1207076247 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove...what a song... what a story.
...que cancion... que historia...
This song (Tucson, Arizona (Gazette) is from Dan's "Windows and Walls" album. It's a GREAT album. The title track is even more haunting than this.
By Dragonlance68 [Affiliate User] 1206185394 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGone now but definately not to be forgotten. This song/story knocked me out twenty-some years ago and still gives me chills. What a slice of true life he brings to life.
