The Bagobo are an indigenous Proto-Austronesian tribe of Mindanao, the Philippines. Here is a traditional Bagobo Agung ensemble taken by anthropologist Robert Garfias in Mindanao during the 1960s. The Agung tradition of the Philippines & Borneo is closely related to the Kulintang tradition (which stretches down from Mindanao in the Philippines to Sumatra in Indonesia), and distantly related to Javanese and Balinese Gamelan musical genres.

I dnt know frm which region is Karal Kafi form of dance. But i knw 1 thing.Bagobo's belief that the feet draw energy source frm the earth, its like as u seen through its placement of the feet & the body stance, which is bended & drawn towards the ground. At prsent, elders still executes the same bt the apo's executes more distinctive.

I find it so hard to identify this dance. The low stamps and 'foot-focused' movement is akin to the Bagobo dance KARAL KAFI. Ah, basta..ewan. Does anybody know?

  • The Bagobo are ...

The Bagobo are considered to be of "proto-Austronesian" stock.

Proto-Austronesian groups like the Bagobo migrated into the Philippines and Malay Archipelago from Taiwan in successive waves around 5000BC. It was this same group which had further migrated out to form the Micronesian and Polynesian groupings in Oceania.

Later western-Austronesian groups emerged from further Proto-Austronesian insular migrations within the Malay archipelago (Javanese, Melayu, Acehnese, Visayan, Tagalog etc).
