  • if you play in the ...

if you play in the long run, you should not rely on physical movements as a determinant of to call or not, betting patterns by semi decent poker players are the easiest tells and easiest to spot

but in the end theres nothing u can do when you have a lower straight beat by a higher one
or two pairs beat by set

i am the most patient pkr player at the casino and i avg 45$/h sometimes i just wait forever to get a strong hand over a strong hand, but my average payout is enough to feed the kids

  • KGB was the small ...

KGB was the small blind. A player in the big blind holding any ace would be wise to raise a limper, because most players, even Teddy KGB, are unlikely to limp with big hands from position. It actually disguises the hand more to raise in position, not limp.

Just saying, it's not the most accurate portrayal of proper heads up poker. Granted, playing for your life is a bit different than I'm used to.

  • right but most ppl ...

right but most ppl i play with at casino are not these advanced players they may be regulars but they are very simple and i can usually tell what they have by their betting patterns

i always glance and maybe look at one's chip stack when i think of a bet amount, doesn't mean a thing, he must have a strong hand i and i must have a strong hand and mine must beat his, i usually fold when i get raised thus i usually do value bets, or if his bets getting exponentially higher

hmm ive never seen that, the chips are so damn dirty who would get them near their mouth? calmness in general like leaning back on the chair shows a lot of strength imo

  • And physical ...

And physical movements are exceptionally useful. Any and all limbic responses are very good barometers of hand strength, so much so that when Joe Navarro began teaching a section on tells to Camp Hellmuth participants, both Hellmuth and Cloutier took three pages of notes.

Annie Duke was also part of an experiment to determine ability to detect lies, and used the same behaviors Navarro did to recognize intentional false statements.

  • You and I disagree ...

You and I disagree about what's considered an obvious tell. Advanced players rarely give away their hands with their betting, an example being pros betting drawing boards only to check the made hand on the turn. The problem is (and I'm not talking about you specifically) that TV has made everyone a poker expert, so betting gives away a lot of information. A glance at chips will always be a monster.

  • another common one ...

another common one is putting your hand over your mouth when holding a monster. the reason ppl do this is to hide their excitement.

  • Agreed - or those ...

Agreed - or those who are new to the game and have yet to adjust to the financial swings.

Anyway, the best possible had KGB could have had was trip aces - I'm sure "Mike" knew that (it was in the script afterall ;-) - and who would tilt after flopping a nut straight when the best the opponent could have is pocket rockets - there was no help to KGB until the river card to make his 3-of-a-kind Aces, but even that was no help in light of Mike's hand ...

I love Mike's false tell at the end!

  • lol for those ...

lol for those stakes and the situation, i don think mike could have got on tilt, after playing with a player for so long, it's pretty hard to get on tilt from them

usually ppl that get on tilt are losers that are oversensitive

  • hmmm a lot of good ...

hmmm a lot of good players put their hand on their leg when holding a monster waiting for a call

the most obvious tell is the amount they bet and their betting patterns, dont rely on physical movements it's useless, in the end you must have a hand and they must have something weaker

heads up you play everything if preflop raise is not big, since matt was short stacked unlikely he'll raise

Haha I'm getting negative feedback for saying that 4-2 is a trash hand heads up. Shows how many freeroll players think they're card players...

  • The real question ...

The real question isn't the tell...but rather who the hell plays 42 heads up? Even from the small blind, that's such an atrocious hand. In the power rankings it's like 166th heads up...

    Talk about junk...

  • You'd be surprised. ...

You'd be surprised. It took years for people to realize Hellmuth would 'hug' himself when running a stone cold bluff. I play with a regular group, and after five years someone finally figured out that the 'tough read' player would pull his hands off the table with a bluff.

Even the most obvious tell in history (the glance at your chips with rockets or cowboys) gets overlooked so often it hurts.

No,a good player would appear to shrug it off. There isn't a player alive who wouldn't get rattled by this...the guy just showed you that you can no longer outplay him.
