    Excelsior is much larger so we can assume the Enterprise is obscured. We can also assume that they weren't close enough to read the markings.

    not disputing other comments,but I think the ship was named 'Yorktown' and then changed to Enterprise 1701-A. the full version is in the novel. one reason there were bugs:it was rushed into service therefore giving Scotty a challenge to get it right

    Airport, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was filmed before "The Man Trap", but Man Trap was aired before Where No Man.
