what id like to know is why they changed briges between this and the next movie

the writers/directors didn't want you to see what ship Kirk and co. were getting. it was supposed to be an intense moment as they enter Spacedock

The "boo-boo" you refer to could have been another Constitution (the same class as ol' 1701/1701-A)-class ship. We probably will never know for certain.

Excelsior is much larger so we can assume the Enterprise is obscured. We can also assume that they weren't close enough to read the markings.

Why can't they see the Enterprise behind the Excelsior when they first approach it in this clip...but then they see it behind the Saucer?

This little boo boo always bugged me...even when I was like 11.

who know's if that what if era besides everything turned out all right you know kirk got the enterprise-a simular to that of the old one which i deeply miss boy those days i do miss

not disputing other comments,but I think the ship was named 'Yorktown' and then changed to Enterprise 1701-A. the full version is in the novel. one reason there were bugs:it was rushed into service therefore giving Scotty a challenge to get it right

This was the first Star Trek film I saw in the theater. The whole film was great, but looking back at this, the "my friends, we've come home" line is my favorite in the movie.

The 'teaser' where the Excelsior is seen - the original script called for the Excelsior to be renamed Enterprise since the TOS-era (later refitted) Enterprise was destroyed in the previous film.

"Let's see what she's got," says the captain - and then we found out, didn't we?!

it would've been pretty cool if they did get excelsior.

Airport, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was filmed before "The Man Trap", but Man Trap was aired before Where No Man. That's why in the fist ep, They had the familiar uniforms, etc. In Where No man, they used the uniforms and sets from "The Cage".(Which became "The Menagerie", the only TOS 2 part ep. =Stefan=

it's weird the second pilot aired Septemeber 22nd of 66 lol i think all the episodes of TOS aired in production order not airdate order

but the actually premire of Star Trek was "The Man Trap" that aired Septemeber 8th 1966

I know, but why is "The Man Trap" listed before the second pilot?
