---

Introducing the "Burj Dubai". Currently under construction, it has already overtaken Taipei 101 to become the new World's Tallest Building.

When completed in 2009 it will be over half a mile high, with 160 storeys. That's like stacking 2 Empire State Buildings on top of each other.

In this video from the Discovery channel, Matt Rogers takes a look inside the unfinished building including a view from the 137th floor.

  • ...fraud and force ...

...fraud and force should be abolished, but voluntary agreements should be left alone, even if the parties involved don't come to the same agreement you would have made for them.

  • "What they dont ...

"What they dont tell you is that they import workers from pakistan/india/iran etc to work on those buildings for less then a few dollar a day"

They wouldn't be going there unless it were an improvement upon their previous conditions.

That said, Dubai is having problems with lawlessness on the part of companies confiscating their workers' passports, not honoring their workers' contracts, etc. But that's a different matter entirely...

  • "all americans quit ...

"all americans quit hating on dubai. our country was built on slave labor."

Nonsense. The South stagnated partly because of slave labor -- they didn't need labor-saving devices, so they didn't develop them. Slavery makes the slaveowners lazy and complacent. The great majority of the US antebellum infrastructure was in the North, which gave them a large advantage during the Civil War. The only things that were built on slavery were the backwards, rednecky elements of Southern culture.

  • I've just returned ...

I've just returned to London, just bk from Hong Kong and IFC & ICC were increadible.. BD is almost twice as tall and that says alot! Staggering. Good luck to you Dubai, the only thing I can say is: don't just build attractions, build a city that is dense and really works, otherwise it's just a theme park to the extrodinary.. make a city out of the desert that is truly dense, not just an exibit. But still, what you're building is a testemony to all of mankind, respect..

  • I think these are ...

I think these are blessing from the prayers of prophet Abraham:

"And when Abraham said: My Lord, make it a secure town and provide its people with fruits, such of them as believe in The God and the last day..." (The Quran chapter 2 verse 126)

No offense, just my own opinion.
