    I am the servant of the Qur'an as long as I have life. I am the dust on the path of Muhammad, the Chosen one. If anyone quotes anything except this from my sayings,
    I am quit of him and outraged by these words.

    Hz. Mawlana Jalal-ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (k.s)

    BLIND IMITATION

    A Sufi, after journeying, arrived at a monastery for the night. He fastened his mount in the stable and gave it a little water and some fodder. The other Sufis in the monastery were destitute and poor. They secretly sold the little ass and bought some food. They ate the viands in the evening and began the sema (musical dance).

  • In the small hours ...

    In the small hours of the morning their joy increased and they commenced to sing, "The ass is gone, and the ass is gone." By way of imitation that Sufi (the owner of the ass) began to sing in tones of impassioned feeling this same phrase, "The ass is gone." When the pleasure and excitement and music and dancing were over, they left the monastery in the dawn. In order to take his ass,

    the Sufi went into the stable but did not find the ass. He asked the servant whereabouts of his ass, and the servant told him everything. "Why did not come and tell me what happened last night?" asked (he Sufi. The servant replied: "I came several times to inform you but you were always saying merrily, "The ass is gone." So I was always going back thinking, what a wise man he is; he knows everything, so there is no necessity for me to tell him about what happened.

    I agree and disagree at the same time;
    Rumi found the mystic side of religion. which is always a heart of one.
    But RUMI all along followed Islam and it's Beauty within.
    He uncover the one and only religion frm Allah so his poems reflects many.

    An exquisite piece of artistry. Is not music the universal language? And in the poetry of Rumi is it not love that unites us all regardless of country of origin, religion, creed, or language. Much gratitude to you Alex Zar. Will there be more?

  • However, the most ...

    However, the most important about Rumi is the divine love. When we read it we sense it. Despite where ever we come from, it breaks the barriers and sets you in peace. There are so many people from so many different countries paraphrase Rumi's work magnificently, because they feel that divine love in them.

  • There is a strong ...

    There is a strong belief of divine love in Persian and now Iranian culture despite (and because) the situation they are in now 21st century and then 13th century. You can see this in Hafiz, Khayyam, and Rumi poetries. For example, try to comprehend the following Rumi's poem if you are not Persian or you do not speak Farsi. You will have a hard time, unless some one translate or paraphrase it.
    Mana An Maham keh andar la maka nam
    Majo biron a mara keh dar ein janam
