The story is true - the Brits invented them, and the Germans copied them quickly in WWI. But both Brit and German tanks in WWI lacked a turret on top of the vehicle - they had "turrets" o.t. sides insted. What they did have was armor and tracks, though - so that are the two defining characteristics of a tank. Armament is not necessarily one, as a tank may also completely rely on the weapons of its infantrymen carried, or on protection thru other tanks for repair, recovery or bridge-layer tanks.

A tank is anything that is tracked and armored. Granted though that when people who dunno much about the military say "tank" they usually mean an MBT, not an APC, ACAV, IFV, etc. But an APC is still a tank by definition.

if you drive them you would know that the earth anchor on the back isnt hydrolic its operated by a pilot winch to raise and lower it then you reverse onto it
now whos uneducated but your right it is a 513 reme recovery variant with a 25 t winch
