XBOX 360 Repair 3 Red Lights of Death Rrod X-Clamp Fix

yeah they are starting to do that crap now...try to find out who owned your 360 before you did and before you buy it....it's a long shot but it may work.

hey i thought the same happened to me, the light going green then orange real fast and fans not working, and i saw your post and i was like ah S**t so i took it apart and took off all the washers and saw that the silicone was scape off just bearly so i left that washer off and it works.

Too bad they make you pay $99 if your 360 is second hand. When I called and registered, they saw that it was registered under a different name, so they wouldn't let me send it in unless i payed up.

It was still under the warranty btw.

i guess nylon washers would be fine as well guys....they'd be 5mm or m5

The "silicone" was indeed scraped away, but it was because of the washer. Take a close look at one of those washers. There are sharp edges on one side.

Putting a washer sharp side down, and pressing hard on the xclamp is what made this happen.

S**t happens, but knowing why S**t happens is priceless.

??? I've never heard of that happening. You didn't do this while it was plugged in did you? also they dont touch the traces on the board b/c they're covered with silicone, you have to scrape the mobo to get to the traces. you must have scratched the board with your screwdriver when you removed the x braces, look for a scratch, i'll bet you will find one. sorry for you loss bro :(

The washers shorted out some traces on the board. I can't believe this hasn't happened to others using this mod.

I used #8 washers from Lowes. They just barley did make contact with a couple traces on the board.

The power supply was going green then orange and the fans would just barley kick. The washers tripped circuit protection I guess.

They said from once you register and talk to them (like i did yesterday) it will take a total of 10-15 days.. including them shipping you the box to put in your xbox consol, and then shipping it to them for free, them fixing it or giving u a new one and then gettin' it back

4 Red flashing lights mean somethin' is wrong with the AV cable, btw.

You should also try...

Placing it horizantally.
Putting it away from walls and other electronics.
And even have a fan blowing on it for better ventilation.

Don't do that towel thing, imo, if you know what i'm talkin' about.

For everyone who has 1-3 red flashing lights (with freezing game on top of it like me) i suggest you call the customer service.

Its quick, they will register ur xbox 360 for you, they will get your adress and # and ship you a box that you put ur 360 in w/ free shipping. Then they will either fix it or give you a new one and all that will be done within 2 weeks. Its a good deal, nice people.

Don't stress guys. I know alot of fellow GTA 4 players are mad, but it will work out. no worries.
