NEW YORK, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Hip-hop culture and controversy have always made for familiar bedfellows. Yet, in the wake of the Imus controversy and in a year when the genre's sales have tumbled, hip-hop finds itself under an exceptional amount of scrutiny and pressure -- and the stakes have never been higher. BET NEWS takes a powerful and compelling look at the state of hip-hop today in a three-part series titled HIP HOP vs. AMERICA. Hosted by BET's own Toure and Jeff Johnson, this special showcases a candid, heated forum that will allow audiences to hear the opinions of prominent leaders in the hip-hop industry, the political realm, academia and the Black church.

There's a reason why that movie is rated R. And yes, white kids do get into trouble too, but white people run this country so they can do what they want. A white kid who gets into trouble will most likely have an easier time in life than a black kid who gets into trouble for the same reason. The white kid will probably have a job and a house while the black kid is still in jail or dead.

By iRapiHustleiRep [Affiliate User] 1223323090 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe point is if your going to blame hip hops depiction of hard life, violence, or drugs then you have to also blame everything else that shows it to. They dont, hip hop is predominantly black that is why it is targeted. Every time something happens, blame it on hip hop, even when it has nothing to do with it. So if hip hop is black societies problem then what about those who dont listen to it that stay in trouble. Oh, then they are just troubled, they need help.
By thatnewguy84 [Affiliate User] 1223319514 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSo you mean to tell me a 5 year old kids who watches a rap video and watches scarface is going to say "oh they are just actors, thats not real so i'll do what the rappers say" No, you cant pick and choose who to blame. These things were going on long before rap music surfaced. And white america is just as bad, but they dont get the time young black kids do. You look enough in the suburbs and you find the same stuff going on, just hidden behind the so called perfect family scene.

I mean come on...you have Talib Kweli, Mos Def, KRS One, Common, Immortal Technique, Brother Ali, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Dilated Peoples, De La Soul, and many others to create a more solidified panel.
By TheJoe84 [Affiliate User] 1223231549 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveRobert DeNiro and Al Pacino are only actors playing roles in a movie. When the movie is done being shot, they go back to their normal lives. Rappers rap about violence, murder, etc. and claim that it's real. Go to any Jim Jones or Cam'ron video on youtube and see how many "Dipset 4 life" comments are on there. Some people take that crap way too seriously. And just so you know, Denzel Washington got an award too.
By Powerade600 [Affiliate User] 1223009391 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveEverybody doesnt turn out bad. And everybody that turns out bad doesnt listen to hip hop. So stop blaming it. It comes from poor parenting and growing up with no guidence. The kids get lost and turn to the wrong places for love, and advice.
By thatnewguy84 [Affiliate User] 1222905561 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis is about race. There is always a black face up there in the hotseat. They act like drugs were not a problem 30 years ago, or crime wasnt a problem either. Its just easier for the world to see everything now. Drugs and violence didnt arrive with hip hop, it was already there. Nobody wakes up one day and goes i would like to be a gangster and sell drugs because i see it on tv. That is just stupid. This is a harsh reality that some kids come up in with bad parenting.
By thatnewguy84 [Affiliate User] 1222905400 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSo why dont they talk about the old school westerns, where they do nothing but fight and shoot. Why dont they talk about the old school gangster movies where they also show violence, murder, greed, and corruption. I'll tell you why because they were not black. This is more about race than anything. They go after rappers for showing things, but if Robert DeNiro or Al Pacino do it then tey get awards for it.
