Ippon/Judo Hl

I have only been doing Judo for a little while but our traning is pretty much 50% throws and 50% ground techniques.

Try practicing your bjj in a bar fight scenario or on concrete its not the same, it changes everything, try doing the pivots on carpet, I've been in grappling sports of all kinds for over 12 years and I'm telling you that the throws can win a fight real quick. Modify Osoto Gari and with your hand under their chin you'll open their cranium.

pf coarse yes if you throw someone like that into the concrete they're not going to attack you so its very profecient for self deffense! not to mention the joint loks and chokeholds! but i prefered they way it was in the time of kimura! raw conditioning and they didnt ignore the ground! they concentrated on both

yes but in the days before judo was comercial and peoplelike the great kimura! judo was a submission match! yes people could be submitted or hurt from throws but ippons were the way to win. bjj was developed for judo! but judo evolved and now a throw wins you the match! when really the old judo was better than it is now

Actually It is not a problem because of the rules. If you do a perfect throw, you win the match. It always irritates me when people compare Judo & BJJ. They are 2 completely different arts. It would be the same to compare BJJ & MMA. If you do a pure BJJ move and you don't protect yourself, you are going to get hurt. So my point is... STOP comparing different martial arts because they all have different rules... And I'm drunk right now so I'm sorry if you don't understand anything I just said.

You're right biglittlejujitsuman, I've competed in both and now I teach it different. HOwever, when some throws finished they do put the opponent down on all fours or on their back flat. So those situations happen and you have to train for it. Judo is so comprehensive in its coverage of grappling.

the problem with judo is they score for the takedown but not for position after the takedown! if you end up on top of someone but with your back facing them it is a vunerable position for you! your oponent has endless oppertunities

Oh, you best believe they'd do it right back to you and then some. On the other hand after you fight all year to get to the finals and win its hard to contain yourself....

Yeah, I noticed this too. Sometimes they do it right in front of the beaten opponent almost like they're rubbing it in. I hate that.

In this sport you are totally alone and respect for your oponent is out of the tatami..

The last one is a so called Uchimata-gaeshi. It`s a typical defense against Uchimata. This has to be an Ippon. Anything else would be really wrong.

Such a sick video man! Judo may not be the most dangerous martial art out there but the moves look so fluid and well exectued!

Not to mention, a uchimata or even an osoro can be dangerous on a hard surface ;)
