En los inicios de la guerra del Pacífico de la 2ª Guerra Mundial el archipiélago fue ocupado por Japón. Durante la lucha contra los invasores japoneses, nació el movimiento Huk, de base campesina e inspiración socialista. Tras la Guerra, la independencia que consiguieron en 1946 fue poco más que formal: el archipiélago continúa bajo su dominación económica.

Durante esta época y hasta los años 1930, surgieron varios periódicos en español cuyos editoriales criticaban frecuentemente la política lingüística de las autoridades norteamericanas.

La derrota de los filipinos, representó la anulación de la 1ª República de Filipinas y la abolición de la Constitución de Malolos, que establecía el español como lengua oficial de Filipinas. Incluso tras la Guerra filipino-estadounidense, se produjo una importante resistencia de las clases medias hispanoparlantes contra la imposición del inglés y la marginación del español, que se había retirado de la política y la educación.

Entre 1899 y 1911, un millón de filipinos murieron durante la Guerra filipino-estadounidense luchando contra la ocupación estadounidense. La Guerra comenzó como respuesta al incumplimiento del compromiso de las fuerzas norteamericanas de devolver a los filipinos su soberanía tras la derrota de España. EEUU practicó la tortura llamada "curas de agua," que obligaban al prisionero a ingerir cantidades ingentes de líquido, produciéndose muchas veces la muerte por colapso.

Spaniard give you peace, security against China, founded Manila and Cebú, give you the wheel. The cathlic religion give you that you pay no tribute to Europe, and school and universities (Santo Tomas at 1611, and San Carlos at 1595) and a free basic educational sistem.

What about the war you have against USA? About a million of filipines die in this war. What about Hak movement against Japan? You have no peace nor justicie since Spain leave.

shut the hell up and get over it. i'm filipino too and i lived in spain for some months. they are some of the most appealing and sophiscated people i've ever met, and they respect filipinos. you're just filipino trash who can't get over his own racial insecurities

The USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand were all inhabited by Europeans. The rest of Britain's colonies that are still inhabited by the native people aren't really doing that well.

Hi I saw your review on the canon or XM2, this video quality is good, was it done on post poduction ?, its good. I am from Barbados ( Little Englian as its known as ) and hope to be create music videos and Advertising. I have a full camera rig setup using Canaon HV20 ( DOF, Matt box, Nikon lens etc..) British colonies? Oh! you mean like India, Southafrica, Egypt and many other countries from Africa and Asia.Yea they're doing great. Or were you thinking about US Australia...? Why don't you ask the natives what they think about having being colonized by British?

BUT here in the UK, thousands of British citizens leave to go to and live in Spain each year. Interesting point. I've always thought of the Spanish as laid-back, and cultured not lazy but then again I've never lived in a Spanish colony.

im a filipino that we were colonized by spain!!! spanish are source of graft and corruption, lazy, hard headed and uses God's name to make other races like hell. after all most of the countires under spanish are poor. why we were not colonized by the english known to be hardworking people. look at spain now behind among european nations! we filipinos regreted this part of our history!!!
