If it's a rumor, it's the most coincidental rumor I've ever heard of in my entire life.

Gamechamp3000, that info about Shadow being based on the image of Super Sonic in Sonic and Knuckles, i think that's just a rumor, although i may be wrong!
It would be cool if it was canon though; it seems like a logical way to explain why Sonic and Shadow look alike! More logical than saying 'Shadow is a clone of Black Doom, and the reason he looks the same as Sonic is just a coincidence!' That idea sucked!

They cut out the part with Sonic with the chaos emerald, the only way to find out is play Hero story.

I agree wth CE7, this was fun as hell. the PS2 was my 1st system, and I got the GC and this game at christmas after it came ut. so many good memories.

Once the battle starts he realizes the error of his ways and gives Shadow ice cream.

Then the world explodes. YAY

Man Sonic sounds so menacing and epic at the start of the fight. "Alright Shadow, time for me to finish this!" Like he has a lot of malice in his voice.

Well technically, Shadow was based on a prophecy drawing showing Super Sonic. So Shadow's the faker, even though he was "born" decades earlier. AIN'T FATE NICE LIKE THAT =]

Heh, the first time I played this fight, I had sooooooo much trouble beating Shadow/Sonic. Of course, this was the first game I ever got for the GCN, was only my second system.

I still remember when I first saw this scene. Since I decided to play the Dark Story first I was so freaked out to how the hell Sonic was alive until I played the hero story and found out about him using Chaos Control.

then why does when it finished both of the sonic adventure games why didn't it go to sonic heroes it didn't because it was a part of the series originally and if it was canon why haven't there been games about the space egg crap there were no games because it wasn't canon the way you know something is canon is if later in the series they refer back to it they never once referred back to sonic heroes they constantly refer to the first and second adventure but not heroes get your facts straight.
