    i do undertand the principle behind magnetic braking, and converting momentum to electric energy... I thought perhaps as solar car motors should take advantage of all possible efficiency gains and potential sources of energy, it might be useful to recycle the field energy of the coils too... every time the coils are powered up, they spit electric energy back out...seems a shame to waste it...there's no reason that a car using magnetic braking to recycle energy, couldn't also recycle coil charge

    In this case it's not the collapsing fields in the coils. You want to capture the energy in the moving vehicle by running the motor as a generator and recharging the vehicle's batteries. The moving vehicle is acting like a capacitor with a voltage across it, and when you use magnetic braking you are discharging the mechanical capacitor.
