Additional to being in a small region where most prolific lost distance runners are from, he is also muscular, with muscular legs. Add to this that he has the most smooth energy efficient stride, you have a lethal combo. He uses his forward stroke momentum to flex his knees forward and plant his foot way ahead without having to flex any muscle.

Bekele made a mistake, as he and his couches said, El-G said it, he said it was a mistake in the part of the longer distance experts. Bekele discussed of running the last 3K in a quicker and increasing pace but they left it on field decision and the rest is history. Bekele owns the 5K reocrd don't forget. Also there was talk he might shoot for the 1500 record.. hahaha I don't buy that personally.

El Guerrouj was a miler. Kenenisa made a tactical error in the Athens 5K. Not saying the results would have been different, but you need to remember they specialize in two different events.

There is a reason Kenenisa has the WR in the 5/10K while El G owns the mile.

the last 100m was 10 seconds. That's insane. Bekele is the man. 26:17 is absolutely untouchable, and might stand for a very long time.
