Sand cast two parts each weighing about 25 pounds of aluminum alloy. They will be the (adjustable) foundation that the rest of my 4x4x2 foot (usable area) CNC machine will be built on.

    also, AL cools so quickly, it would seem you eithe overheated the alloy or nearly ran cold by the end of the pour. Are you using greensand with foam? do you coat the foam? what do you use for fuel /type of furnace?

    you might try digging a 'bowl' in the sand where you can dump larger amounts of metal, then it will just flow in as needed.

    no...the only thing that saved this pour was a the volume of metal poured, it was still at liquid temp when adding more, and then again.
