  • yeah, & how many ...

yeah, & how many people are going to build their own steam engine? Steam engines aren't exactly maintenance free either.

  • I like nuclear ...

I like nuclear power. With peak oil looming over our heads I think it's becoming more attractive to alot of people.

  • Surprised to see ...

Surprised to see how many people bash nuclear power. The waste that is created is easily contained and monitored; so it's not any where nears as dangerous as some think. Also, the industry creates lots of jobs for working people (I'm one of them). Of course I like solar power too.

  • you with your ...

you with your complex tracking hardware... its freaking easy. Put in some light sensor to a microcontroller, Do some computer coding. Connect that to 2 little servo motors... DONE.

I think this system is perfect for people with alot sun. ( alot heat radiation ).
It's cheap and also doable to make it yourself!

Nano solar is great, but poor people cant afford such things.... Even if its cheap!
We also need to think about afrika, china, etc..

  • This is not a " ...

This is not a "Solar Break-Through", it is actually very old.

What most people can't get there hands on is the device to convert the steam to electrical energy, such as a miniature steam engine or turbine, which would turn a generator to create the electricity. It's not like they have them sitting on the shelves of Wal-Mart.

    Good demonstration though.

  • Nuclear is here now ...

Nuclear is here now and petrochemical is chemically stored solar energy. Until we develope nanosolar they are the only answer to our needs. Ironically, the use of these energy methods may save us the capital to invest in nanosolar...that would otherwise be wasted on ethenol based fuels and other retarded pipe dreams such as a lens over a old solar panel!

  • I'm all for ...

I'm all for nanosolar...once its up and running you won't have to promote it...because it will sell it self..but correct me if i'm wrong this vid has nothing to do with nano solar and is old tech which would need to be set up in the desert areas with complex tracking as you say and infrastructure to ship it to cloudy areas! not very efficient!

  • ideally, if nearly ...

ideally, if nearly everyone has Nanosolar panels or similar PV covering their roofs, they can charge batteries to run their homes at night & charge their EVs for non-polluting commuting. Excess can be sold back to the utility company to be redistributed to factories, shops and other businesses to cut the umbilical cord to the oil industry. People can always opt for the system as above, but it may be more expensive, less aesthetically acceptable & may create noise and vibration.

  • LOL!!! Where do you ...

LOL!!! Where do you get your fractured logic, DK? It works the OTHER WAY AROUND. Solar power like this is DECENTRALIZED and needs no infrastructure & produces no pollution. It's petrochemicals & nuclear that cannot be used without infrastructure & energy transfer inefficiencies. The only problem with this system is complex tracking hardware needed, & mechanical complexity & maintenance. Nanosolar PV panels require none of that, are inexpensive, & don't look ugly on the roof.

  • this is a great ...

this is a great idea, hopefully someone will pick up on the great potential and start mass producing those lenses and getting them onto the market, I see there is huge demand on ebay for them right now. . . the cool thing is that the plastic lens can be rolled up for shipping, and they're super light

  • you would need to ...

you would need to have a steam engine to make the power, hooked up to an alternator or generator. . . inverters are cheap, they would represent much lest cost than the actual lens, steam engine, and generator/alternator

Looking forward to getting more information on this. I was considering installing something like this at my sisters house but don't I need an inverter for the electrical panel?

Haleyvision, this is Sir Charles. Joseph Holden and I work together. We are already testing a prototype power system for home use that will store power at night. We have some very interesting developments that will emerge soon.
