thanks for your sincerity craig, you're not only terribly sexy, but incredibly sensitive. thanks also for reminding us of your humanity.

Given everything else I've seen him do, this is not cynicism and he's never kept his being an alcoholic a secret. I mean, why is it wierd, because someone he's not going along with all the other funny monkey's are supposed to do and dance and throw poo?

i have never experienced this kind of feeling of deep deep respect for someone on TV! I had long since thought you kind and honest and today Craig, you have proven that we can take social responsibility seriously! THANK YOU, Craig Ferguson, my faith in humanity has been restored, even if it's just a beginning.

This is an example of why Craig is the best TV talk show host around. His monologues are very human. But this clip in particular really shows why he's so great--he's smart. He's got the courage to tell the truth and has class. No other host would have done what he did, for any subject. Craig is a good man. May he never leave the Late Late Show, and may he never, ever sell out. No matter how popular he gets, I think he belongs in a more humble place to drive home the humanity he has.

Um, he's been pretty outspoken for a while about his alcoholism.

In fairness, I've got to think most of it was the audience didn't know where he was going with this and if you notice they do start to get the gravity near the middle and absoluted by the end.

He was great there (which is interesting he went on even though he kinda booted Maher from his show in 05 when Maher made a somewhat callous joke about child molestation. Glad they made up.)
This is TV at it's best and his monologues are glorious. Good one Jimmy!

The audience laughing made my heart hurt. When do you stop being a jackass and realize that this is not a joke? That these are real people that are dying and hurting themselves. Like Craig said... money doesn't fix everything.

I'm sorry Joe, you have completely missed the point here. The monologue is about an illness, not about celebrity status. I hope you can continue in your blissful ignorance rather than realise the gravitas and horror of alcoholism. I'm just very envious of your lack of knowledge, wish I was there.

I've got to agree with you on this - in an otherwise brilliant and poignant monologue, you got the impression that AA would be the only option out there... which it isn't. For irreligious people AA clearly isn't the right choise, and I really don't see evidence of it's religious aspect providing additional benefit that one doesn't get from the simple support of others in a similar predicament. It seems to me to be peddling a cult-like religiosity on the side.
