A real Samurai sword hit on its side would bend, not break. They have a hard outer shell with a core of softer metal inside.
He was selling a display only replica, unsuitable for anything other than putting on your paneled wall in your doublewide trailer.

He was selling a cheap chinese communist made knockoff. All of them are made of cast metal and are very brittle, which the guy found out the hard way. They are only suitable for display purposes, like all other Chinese made swords sold on these home shopping channels.
Real swords are EXPENSIVE!
