How to Fix Window Airconditioners, Expert Advice

window air conditioners are mostly r-22 like dave said, i have also seen some old ones with r-12 and a small handful of 134a but mostly r-22. do not mix different types of refrigerant. also dont use refrig from a unit with a compressor burnout. usually on the compressor it will state what type of refrigerant it is charged with

another way to clean your window ac is to take a small brick or 4x4 wood or anything and lay it in the driveway and set the inside portion up in the air. blast it with the hose on both coils, you may have to remove the inside front cover. when both sides are blasted with the hose. wait a few minutes and do it again. now sit it in the sun and leave it for a day or 2 before plugging it in. it wont hurt it as long as you cover the controls and let it dry completely before plugging it in.

the best whay to find a leak is to put soapy water in a sray bottle and sray all the pipes and radaters then look and see if is bubbling any where but make sure your system is pressurized or it won't work.
