Real-Time woodcarving demonstration by artist Scott McNeill. McNeill studied bas-relief wood carving from master woodcarvers after spending two years in the Peace Corps.

* Scott has been woodcarving professionally since 1995 and apprenticed under professional woodcarving masters. The advanced techniques Scott uses are in no way meant to teach others, or imply that his style is a model to be imitated. Woodcarving tools can be dangerous and should always be handled with respect.
*Specifically, Scott does NOT recommend or endorse that anyone ever carve towards their body. Thank You.

  • There are no words ...

There are no words to properly praise your work, and I haven't even seen the painted version(yet). I work in the harder woods, Cherry,Port Orford Cedar, tree of heaven etc, but have only used pigment (colored pencils mainly) on a couple of basswood pieces, they are the Shelf Elves (book-like creatures)I make, the Queen on the far right and the Ent tree on the far left are Bass wood, check them out. Love your style. I'm gonna go look for the finished
    piece now. Bravo !

  • Thank You. ...

Thank You. Woodcarving is only the first half of my work. I paint them afterwards. Most of my work is carved into linden/ or basswood. I prefer to use Phiel brand (swiss made) tools as they hold their edge pretty well. See lots more on my website.
