  • He does not ...

He does not demonstrate it "reacting properly", he demonstrates it from static, and from static, you have to take a step back to start the drag, and as they're catching up, do the "brush" to collect the slack you bought yourself.

He does not actually step back.

Now you do it in static, without stepping back, and ask someone to hold on strong. Not like a compliant Aikido uke, but really strong. Your "brushing" will not work without stepping back, which he omitted from the video.

    Clearer now ?

  • Still can't get how ...

Still can't get how it is wrong?

Though I would say that it is more "brush toward yourself while stepping back" rather then brush down.

Drag opponent with weight of entire body will work though might be completely unnecessary if you react properly (before grab is finalized) to grab.

    Good instructional video and explanations.

  • Test this for ...

Test this for yourself - the first part is wrong. If the grabber is doing it for real, i.e. a Judo grab, the "wavey brush down to bend the arm" will not work.

It WILL work when done IMMEDIATELY after you step back with your whole body, dragging the grabber a bit, and you do this while he's off-balance to introduce slack necessary to then reverse into ikkyo.

But as shown here, without any footwork, it simply doesn't work with resistance. It's your arm vs. the grabber's entire body weight.
