The Making of the Tesla CD Turbine Prototype is the story of how the Tesla CD Turbine idea came into being.

It starts with the initial thought process (What if McGyver met Tesla...), then continues with the narrated assembly of the first crude prototype, using recycled CD's, cheap neodymium magnets, and dime store ice-cream scoop inlet.

And this thing actually works!

I guess you mean the coating on the CD's? On air pressure there was some de-lamination, but my water-pressure turbine has worked for months with no deterioration.

My CD Turbines do about 1000 rpm on faucet water pressure, and 15,000 rpm on air pressure.

  • Thanks for your ...

    Thanks for your interest.

Yes, the rotation torque is transferred by the magnetic coupling. There is no shaft through the turbine case (CD spindle).

The fluid exits through the drilled-out spindle post and out the bottom of the spindle.

  • So you say you are ...

So you say you are using magnets to have "as much magnetic effect" to engage the "magnetic coupler" is that an add on to the CD turbine to transfer the rotation via magnetic field? Otherwise you could just use spacers. Also were does the air/water comes out? in the center top? Cool!

  • Hi rjrulz8255, ...

    Hi rjrulz8255,

Inside the mystery ice-cream scoop is the most important part, the nozzle. The nozzle is a brass barbed fitting that the outlet was squashed into a rectangular 1/16 inch by 3/8 inch size.

I tried the drilled-out ice-cream scoop by itself but it didn't work. I hot-glued in the nozzle and it was good to go for air or water pressure!

Any round nozzle about 1/16 to 1/8 inch size will work ok, too.

  • The copper sheeting ...

The copper sheeting is an interesting idea, but I believe it would require coils of wire to get sufficient voltage. I've experimented with coils some, and would like to build the unit as an alternator.
