    This scene and the entire movie in general was awesome not only as a film about Howard Hughes but about OCD as well. Though never having an extreme case of such, I understand Hughes's pain entirely! Something gets stuck in your head and you feel like you are doing something wrong or are a bad person unless you say or do things outloud a certain number of times. It's crazy, but sadly true.

    I have OCD, which is under control now. This scene is the best description of it that I have ever seen. What is worst about OCD is that you know you have a problem. You are perfectly rational, yet you feel compelled to do irrational acts. It can be extremely painful. It IS a brain itch as "orinocojones" says. It can be self destructive if you give into it, and it very hard not to give into it.
