The record was established on April 3,2007, surpassing the previous record of 1990 (515.3kmh). The train is a special tgv, named "V150" (for 150 met/sec, ca. 540kmh)with a souded-up engine (25,000hp, like two F1 starting grids), and larger wheels.

  • this world record ...

this world record was made with same engine than an everyday tgv plus an AGV engine.
more voltage and bigger wheels too..but that s all not an incredible modification! the new AGV motor can run at 574.8kmph with no problem...rendez vous for the next record with the AGV...

  • The tgv work ...

The tgv work everyday with all his engine like every fast train..2nd= the tgv can broke the 600kmph but not for everyday use...we are talking about 360-380kmph in everyday use in the next 10years... this type of record permit to be sure of the safety of the train and think about the futur line conception! a tgv runing at 574kmph with no problem can run esaily at 360kmph.

  • I would like to ask ...

I would like to ask something...

1)When the v150 did that record,it did it with one engine working or with both??

2)Do you believe that in the future we will be able to see from the tgv speeds like 600km/h??

3)Would be reliable for tgv's engine to travel with 500+km/h for over 500km distance for example???

  • Not true, the aim ...

Not true, the aim is not to upgrade these trains to these kinds of speeds, but that doesn't mean the experiments are useless. A lot of valuable data for future construction improvements on both rolling stock and right of way have been gathered during this kind of test runs. The fact that you get a bit of positive media coverage obviously doesn't hurt, but it's NOT the main reason for pursuing these runs.

  • Extrem high voltage ...

Extrem high voltage, special sharpened tracks and many non-serial modificatons, which never could be realized in a serial-model (waste of energy, short life endurance, highly ineconomic operation) are the contrary of what public traffic nowadays needs. This model is not compareable with modern serial-trains, it's more like old rocket-cars in the Fifties.

  • It was useless. ...

It was useless. Today Germany bought new ICE-Velaros, the fastest serial-trains of the world, from Siemen (Germany).

If the french are clever, they also will buy ICE-Velaro, because their own prototype is years behind and still needs until 2015 to get ready.
