Notice at the beginning it says the technical staff of MGM? ha! ha! the special effects were done by disney studios. Anyway some years ago a theater here in los angeles showed it..my brother and I went to see it and all I can say is wow, it was just so cool watching it on a big screen.

Without this movie there probably wouldn't have been a "Lost in Space" either. In fact, it's pretty easy to see where "Lost in Space" got the idea for their robot.

  • Special effects is ...

Special effects is not what makes a movie great (contrary to modern thought), its the story. This movie talks about the timeless aspects of the human condition that we need to remember and deal with.

Yes we make a synthesis and remix of past concepts, just a new light. Over and over again the eternal truths of the universe and the human condition.

  • You've obviously ...

You've obviously never seen the movie then, to make such a stupid comment. The depth of the plot is probably greater than anything we've seen in sci-fi films since. Know what you're talking about before you make a comment like that, otherwise you look foolish.

  • I remember when I ...

I remember when I was a kid when it first came out. There were two big movies at the same time.
This one and the "Long Long Trailer" with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. I think there were promos of these movies that certain cereal boxes had free movie tickets of either.
I think it was "Long Long Trailer" my parents took me to. Tickets were around $.50 for adults and $.25c for kids under 12. We saw two movies a cartoon (hoped it was a roadrunner) and previews as they were called.

  • Without this movie, ...

Without this movie, there would never have been any "Star Trek". The basic premise is the same and the major characters are very similar to those in the original TV show. Of course, without Shakespeare's "The Tempest", there would have been no "Forbidden Planet", which just goes to show that nothing is truly original.

What a bunch of crap! Other than the fact that the movie is in color, this junk hardly seems more advanced than science fiction movies from the 1930s.

Right, FP was the first sci-fi flick to show an Earth spaceship shaped like a flying saucer. But only Morbius wanted them gone -- Altaira had the hots for Cmdr. Adams!

No need to fear Robby -- he has a built-in inhibition against harming RATIONAL beings. Of course, that means there's still lots of people he could bash the crap out of!

Given it's age, this film looks remarkably compelling and well made. It's crazy seeing Leslie Nielsen in his prime.

I've been going through a sci-fi craze lately and this seems like something worth purchasing in the near future.

and Robbie is a design classic, the guy who designed him also did the excellent robot from the "Lost in space" tv series (not the shite film of the same name)
