  • If you are ...

    If you are referring to why the camera isn't heat damaged on descent, it's the same reason why the SRB's aren't heat damaged; they're only up 28-miles high at their apogee, and not coming down fast enough to generate enough heat to cause damage. They don't sink in the water because they're designed to float and hold vertically in the water.

    ... And for a shot of a landing in cold water I wouldn't expose a camera the heat of traversing the athmosphere, which burns meteorites and causes ceramic plates sometimes to flake off.
    But why do you think the capsule doesn't go under?

    Hi Enigma800. No, but I think that at least with the Apollo project many fotos came from the testing site. In fact, if I were responsible for a project of this political importance, financial dimension and in meantime strict secrecy I wouldn't rely on a camera that has to travel a million kilometersand perhaps shows secret details.
