In this video I show you how to watch Youtube in up to 3 times the quality of the original or Beta Youtube players. This is completely free, but you must have a (free) program installed. That program is Quicktime. You can download the newest version free at apple.com

I recommend using Mozilla FireFox for this, although Opera and some other browsers work; however, this does not work in Internet Explorer.

What you are doing is:
1. completely free
2. completely legal
3. does not change Youtube permanently
4. great for low quality videos
5. is called inline JavaScript

You can find the code at http://www.mediafire.com/?b70eebmz4ii

(I fixed the link)

When you are on that page, press Ctrl+A (control button and A key). That should highlight the code. Then right click it and copy it. You can then paste it by right clicking in the text field and clicking "Paste".

  • F11/Ctrl + + + + is ...

F11/Ctrl + + + + is a workaround that takes much more effort than simply adding the &fmt=18. The ONLY people who will think this script is better is Apple fanboys who do ludicrous things to remain Apple loyalists. Don't get me wrong, this script IS really cool and you are the one who brought it to my atention, but I will stick with &fmt=18.

  • For a bigger screen ...

For a bigger screen, press F11 and press Ctrl + + (control and the addition keys; it's really the equals keys) to your hearts content. You can get it pretty big (really close to full screen), and you can see the text in low quality videos. Press F11 to get out of the browser fullscreen and press Ctrl + - (control and minus keys).

  • Also of note is ...

Also of note is that while the higher quality mp4's are consistently 2x+ the file size of the regular flv's, they consistently download with higher bandwidth, so they are hosted on better servers and will result in less lag.

  • &fmt=18 plays same ...

&fmt=18 plays same mp4 as this code injection. I have concluded this through packet inspection, downloading the videos, and matching file size and specs in g-spot. Code injection only plays back higher quality mp4 if it exists, same as &fmt=18 method. Code injection plays back in Quicktime player, which disables full screen mode, so while the code injection method is convenient in a bookmark, as you demonstrate, the &fmt=18 method is ultimately better because it still affords full screen.

Which is quicker, typing &fmt=18 to the end of each video, or clicking one time? Which gives better quality? The Quicktime player. And did you know that &fmt=18 doesn't work for over half of all Youtube videos?
