  • Whats done is done.

The world likes to blame the US for everything. Does the world think we need to appologize for the atomic bombings of Japan?
Some have suggested we should have warned them. Sure thats would have worked.

    Second guessing is easy.

Well this is what the bombings did:

    World War II stopped!!

  • It's not a question ...

It's not a question of whose worse. It's a question of did our government uphold our laws and protect the constitution? The answer is no. My beef has nothing to do with Japan. We were taught how great America behaved in WWII but now we find American soldiers routinely raped and mascaraed in the same proportions as Japanese and Chinese. We complain about the poor treatment of our POWs when the whole time we were slaughtering Japanese POW

Instead of taking to the the extreme, let's make it simple. They chose to kill hundreds of thousands in China and Korea by air and ground and THEN fired the first shot at us, then chose to masscre more in the Philippines, Thailand, etc. We started bombing their homeland bringing their own horrors to their front steps and it got easy 4 them. All they had to do to avoid devistation was say "that's it, we're done," months before they actually did quit. Who's worse the Japanese or US?

  • Let's take your ...

Let's take your logic to the extreme. Let's not lose any soldiers, instead lets just gas the whole country. Japan is a smaller then California but only 25% of it is inhabitable, easy to dump nerve gas on that small an area.

Wars involve armies, you say killing civilians to save soldiers is acceptable I say it's barbaric. American GI's were as cruel as the Japanese it got to a point Washington had to promise ice cream and 3 day passes in exchange for not killing Japanese POW

  • Andocrates - Ask ...

    Andocrates -

Ask the guys who were preparing to execute a land invasion on Japan if the A-bomb was a slap in the face. They'll tell you it probably saved their lives and those of hundreds of thousands of civilians that would have died in the same manner that they did on Okinawa and Saipan if we had invaded - many of those deaths at the hands of the Japanese military. The A-bombs were nothing compared to the fire bombings we executed over a 5 month span. That's where most of Japan burned.

  • Everyone in a ...

Everyone in a country where 75 % of the land is uninhabitable and 80% of the population live in cities is supposed to just leave? That's a proper warning? It takes two days to evacuate Houston, no one one ever tried New York, Tokyo is a third larger then NYC. Truman was an arrogant asshole who commited us to fight in Korea without consulting anyone on his staff or in the house/senate or the American people whose sons were expected to die. Japanese don't leave their city even when godzilla comes

The major problem with wars is POLITICS!
I hope that internet and globalized media will prevent such things to happen again, by enabling people to discuss DIRECTLY to each other. Imagine if the Japaneses could have spoken to the Americans by internet some days before the bombing...or just after it....

iie. The atomic bombing was a heinous slap in the face of every American who died bravely, and was sold out by Truman. Because so much time has passed everyone seems to think America was proud of the bomb and supported it. Quite the opposite, once the real journalist got to Japan and reported the actual details (America went on trying to paint Hiroshima as a military target and the dead as Imperial troops) Try and find one single US leader who supported the Atomic bombing.

  • The Japanese didn't ...

The Japanese didn't start the war so much as they committed the first violent act. We had already challenged their sovereignty. our fleet , which was stationed in San Diego, was in Hawaii specifically to interfere with Japanese supply lines. War was inevitable.and Truman had a hand in starting it. It's just that the Japanese hit so hard it shocked Truman. Today the country would rise up and impeach the man for putting our fleet in harms way without a declaration of war or rules of engagement

  • This is the problem ...

This is the problem with Americans - no morals. If we sink to their level where is the glory? How does that honor our dead who fought and died for truth Justice and the American way. There is a thin line that separates us from animals which used to separate from other countries. OUR LAW. If we can just cast off our laws when they become inconvenience what was the point of fighting Japan? We didn't have to fight.

Since civilian casualties don't bother you you're now ready to understand the sheer brilliance of Osama' 9/11 attack.

With no money or weapons and less then a dozen troops Osama destroyed the greatest buildings on earth right in the heart of the worlds strongest nation. How many Russian or NATO troops would it take to pull that off, how much fuel would be used just getting here?

  • The naval base was ...

The naval base was not the only base in the city. The city was a huge military complex. It was one of the only cities that had been left untouched bombing.

Also, the Enola Gay targeted the bridge in the city. Since the bridge was of strategic military significance, then the bomb was targeted appropriately and the many civilian casualties were coincidental. This was not a war-crime.

The US also warned the Japanese people to leave their cities.

  • They had a specific ...

They had a specific point they exploded the bomb, they didn 't just let it fly when they hit city limits. The bomb was centered on the residential section of the city, no where near the naval base or heavy industry (which escaped unharmed) no sir that was clearly a crime. That why they covered it up. You don't know 200,000 died because the US told you because we were hiding the casualties. You know the truth because British journalists snuck into Japan and wrote the true story

  • A lot of folks who ...

A lot of folks who claim that the atomic bombings were war crimes are missing a crucial technicality. Yes, it's a war crime to specifically target civilians with weapons systems, but if a military asset is being targeted and some civilians nearby are killed coincidentally, then that is not a war crime. In the case of Hiroshima, the targets were the Imperial military assets located in the city center and the strategic bridge nearby.

Hiroshima WAS a military base. The whole city was a huge military complex with the required civilian infrastructure mixed in. It was a military hub for the empire of Japan.

The atomic bombing of Hiroshima was a glorious tactical victory that put an end to the greatest war in history and affirmed Western military superiority.

  • First, you got the ...

First, you got the sequence wrong. The thermal radiation is first, and the blast wave is second. Elementary physics informs us that infra-red travels at the speed of light; the blast wave follows. Second, there is no reason to capitalize thermal radiation or nuclear fallout, these are common, not proper nouns. Capitalizing words at random usually indicates someone who lives in a trailer park, i.e. a time waster.
